Liga Deportiva Alajuelense association football club in Alajuela

Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, commonly known as Alajuelense and nicknamed La Liga, is a Costa Rican multisport club based in the borough of El Llano, Alajuela. Although they compete in a number of different sports, Alajuelense is mostly known for its association football team. It plays in the Primera División de Costa Rica, the top tier of the Costa Rican football league system. Alajuelense is one of two clubs to have never been relegated, along with Herediano.

Cristina runs her own website cristinaperez.com.ar where she publishes her daily interviews at Radio Mitre and a diverse range of articles including current affairs, travel chronicles, literature and opinion on different fields. She frequently writes for newspapers and magazines as Revista Noticias, La Nación, Clarin and Perfil. Recently she's also been working for BBC Mundo, telling stories about Argentina from a regional perspective. As a host of international summits and events she run Women to Watch Argentina, Girls 20, T-Solutions World Bank, Global Pact PNUD, Oracle Convention, Telefónica Summit, among others. As an actress she has played three major roles in Shakespearean performances of the Buenos Aires Shakespeare Festival. She has studies in History (UNT) and English Literature . She is a member of FOPEA an NGO that advocates freedom of expression and better professional standards for journalists. She's also member of CARI KOL A deep love of words underpins her vocation as a journalist, author, actress and passionate reader.Cristina Pérez is an Argentine television news journalist. Turrialba Volcano National Park

Turrialba Volcano National Park, or in Spanish the Parque Nacional Volcan Turrialba is a National Park in the Central Volcanic Conservation Area of Costa Rica that encompasses the area around the Turrialba Volcano in Cartago Province. The park is currently closed due to the ongoing eruptive episodes of the volcano, most recently from October, 2015 to July, 2016.

Canal 4 is a private Costa Rican television channel, owned and operated by Repretel. It was the second television station acquired by Repretel in Costa Rica.

Canal 11 is a private Costa Rican television channel, owned and operated by Repretel since 1996. It was the first station owned and operated by Repretel-Albavision group in Costa Rica.

Representaciones Televisivas S.A., commonly known as Repretel is a Costa Rican media company, founded by Angela Gonzalez, that came into competition with Teletica and Canal9. Repretel owns Costa Rican channels 4, 6, 11,46 and 2. Repretel began operating in 1993 with Channel 9, in 2000 the lease expired and moved to Channel 4. The company also operates 11 radio stations.

Religion in Costa Rica

Christianity is the largest religion in Costa Rica, with Roman Catholics having the most adherents. Roman Catholicism is the state religion, but the government generally upholds people's religious freedom in practice.

Martín Andrés Cárcamo Papic is a Chilean television presenter and actor and was the host of Pasiones and El Último Pasajero.

Abortion in Costa Rica is severely restricted by criminal law. Currently, abortions are allowed in Costa Rica only in order to preserve the life or physical health of the woman. Abortions are illegal in almost all cases, including when the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest and when the fetus suffers from medical problems or birth defects. Both social and economic factors have led to this legal status. It remains unclear whether abortions are legal to preserve the mental health of the woman, though the 2013 United Nations abortion report says Costa Rica does allow abortions concerning mental health of a woman.

2012 Costa Rica earthquake

The 2012 Costa Rica earthquake occurred at 08:42 local time on September 5. The epicenter of the 7.6 Mw earthquake was in the Nicoya Peninsula, 11 kilometers east-southeast of Nicoya. A tsunami warning was issued shortly afterwards, but later cancelled. Two people are known to have died, one from a heart attack and another, a construction worker, crushed by a collapsing wall. It was the second strongest earthquake recorded in Costa Rica's history, following the 1991 Limon earthquake.

2014 Costa Rican general election

General elections were held in Costa Rica on Sunday, 2 February 2014 to elect a new president, two vice presidents, and 57 Legislative Assembly lawmakers. In accordance with Article 132 of the constitution, incumbent President Laura Chinchilla Miranda was ineligible to run for a second consecutive term.

Luis Guillermo Solís Costa Rican 47th president

Luis Guillermo Solís Rivera is a Costa Rican educator and politician who was the President of Costa Rica from 2014 to 2018. He is a member of the center-left Citizens' Action Party (PAC). Solís led the field in the 2014 presidential election, and won the presidency in a landslide election, earning more votes than any presidential candidate in the history of the nation. Solís has a long academic and political career, culminating in his election as the first President of Costa Rica to be a member of the PAC.

2009 Citizens Action Party presidential primary

A primary election was held for the first time among the members of Costa Rica’s Citizens’ Action Party (PAC), known as the Citizens' National Convention for the selection of the party's candidate in the 2010 general election. This was a closed primary, as potential electors were required to register before the election up till April 30, 2009.

Juan Diego Castro Fernández

Juan Diego Castro Fernández is a Costa Rican lawyer and politician, former Gran Master of the Grand Lodge of Costa Rica. Castro is a Defense lawyer who studied Law and Criminal science at the University of Costa Rica and has a Doctorate degree in Mediation from Universidad La Salle. Castro was Minister of Public Safety between 1994 and 1997 during the presidency of José María Figueres (PLN). He became the first cabinet member to receive a Motion of no confidence by the Legislative Assembly when he summoned police forces to fence off Parliament as a means to press for the reform of the Penal Code. Subsequently, Castro resigned as Minister of Safety and was named Minister of Justice. He unsuccessfully ran for the presidency as the nominee of the conservative-leaning National Integration Party in the 2018 Costa Rican general election. Castro has been compared unfavorably to US President Donald Trump and other right-wing antiestablishment and right-wing populist figures.

Vuelta de Jorco is a district in Aserrí Canton, Costa Rica. One of its towns, La Uruca, annually organises, between July and August, the "Feria Nacional del Jocote", one of the best traditional festivals of the rainy season in Costa Rica.

The article 75 of the Constitution of Costa Rica establishes Catholicism as the country's state religion making Costa Rica the only state in the Americas to do so. Current debate about the issue and the passing toward a full secular state are in the public and political debate. This article is also the only one in the Title VI, only chapter of the Constitution.

Ivan Vargas-Blanco

Ivan Vargas-Blanco is Costa Rican plasma and nuclear fusion physicist. He is renowned for his work in plasma physics and nuclear fusion. Currently, as a professor and tenured researcher at the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC), he heads the Plasma Laboratory for Fusion Energy and Applications that he founded in 2011.

2020 coronavirus pandemic in Costa Rica Details of ongoing viral pandemic in Costa Rica

An ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019, a novel infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, was first confirmed to have spread to Costa Rica on 6 March 2020, after a 49-year-old woman tourist from New York, United States, tested positive for the virus. Since then, as of 29 March 2020, 314 cases were confirmed in the country, causing 2 deaths. The pandemic has triggered a variety of responses from federal, state and local governments, while also impacting politics, education and the economy.
