Meng Meiqi (born October 15,1998) is a Chinese singer and actress signed under Yuehua Entertainment. [1] She began her career as a member of South Korean girl group WJSN in 2016 and went on hiatus from the group from early-2018 prior to leaving in 2023 due to the expiration of her contract. After finishing first in the Chinese edition of the survival show Produce 101 ,she became a member of the Chinese girl group Rocket Girls 101 in 2018. [2]
Meng was born on October 15,1998,in Luoyang,Henan,China. [1]
Meng studied in Luoyang Foreign Language School's Junior High department. She subsequently went to South Korea to become a trainee when she was 15 years old. [3]
In December 2015,Starship Entertainment began to release information about a girl group consisting of four units as a collaboration with Chinese entertainment company,Yuehua Entertainment. Meng,alongside the other members of the group's lineup,released a cover of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey on December 21. She debuted in WJSN on February 25,2016,with their first mini-album, Would You Like? . [4] On December 21,she sang the theme song of a movie,Tohoku is spoken all over the world, with Wu Xin and Ma Li. [5]
Meng made her acting debut in 2017 in the film Autumn In My Heart.[ citation needed ] She was later cast in film Marna alongside WJSN member Wu Xuanyi,Nine Percent and NEX7 member Zhu Zhengting,and UNIQ member Zhou Yixuan.
Due to their participation on the show,they withdrew from the remaining promotions for WJSN's fourth mini album Dream Your Dream . Both Meng and Wu made it into the final line-up of girl group Rocket Girls on June 23,2018. [6] She ranked first with over 185 million votes,debuting as the "Center" for Rocket Girls. However,due to the group's two year contracts with Tencent,it was rumored that Meng and Wu would not be participating in any activities in South Korea with WJSN.[ better source needed ] Starship Entertainment then stated otherwise,and confirmed that they would be promoting with both WJSN and Rocket Girls. On August 9,2018,Yuehua Entertainment and Mavericks Entertainment released a joint announcement stating that they would be withdrawing Meng along with Wu and Zhang Zining from Rocket Girls. Meng and Wu were to resume their activities with WJSN. [9] However,on August 17,both companies confirmed that after coming to an agreement with Tencent,that Meng Meiqi would be returning to Rocket Girls with Wu Xuanyi and Zhang Zining. [10]
On January 15,2019,Meng released her first promotional track titled "有种(Helios)" for the movie, The Wandering Earth . Later in the year,she also released her first extended play,犟 (Jiang),on April 23,2019,with a lead single under the same title. Within the first twenty minutes of the album's release,it became the fastest selling digital album on QQ Music in 2019 with over 1 million digital sales. [11]
Meng also appeared in the spin-off film of the Step Up franchise,Step Up:Year of the Dance, as the first lead actress. She was also cast as one of the leading actresses for the fantasy film, Jade Dynasty, which was an adaptation from the xianxia novel, Zhu Xian . The movie premiered on September 12. [12]
On October 30,2020,Meng released a lead single "Mute" for her second EP "Love Not Love (爱·不爱)". The MV for "Mute" was released on November 26,2020. [13] The second song from the album "Miss You" was released on November 28,2020,and the last song "Quit" on December 26,2020.
Meng Meiqi's third EP "岐义双瞳" was released on October 15,2021. [14]
On November 7,2022,Meng released her fourth EP 空白频率(White Frequency). [15] Meng accompanied the release with a dance music video for the EP’s lead single,"Alien". [16]
On March 3,2023,Starship Entertainment announced that Meng had departed from WJSN after her contract expired. [17]

Meng is a Chinese surname. Meng is a shi surname or clan name (氏), as opposed to the xing (姓) category of surname, ancestral name. Meng is of the type of surname which was a member of the list of names denoting seniority within a certain family: in ancient usage, the characters of meng (孟), zhong (仲), shu (叔) and ji (季) were used to denote the first, second, third and fourth eldest sons in a family. These were sometimes adopted as surnames. Of these, Meng is the best known, being the surname of the philosopher Mencius. It is the 94th name on the Hundred Family Surnames poem.

Produce 101 is a Chinese reality show, which premiered on Tencent Video and based on the South Korean franchise show of the same name. It premiered on April 21, 2018 and aimed to form an eleven-member girl group.
Rocket Girls 101 was a Chinese idol girl group formed by Tencent through the 2018 reality show Produce 101 China on Tencent Video. The project girl group consists of eleven-members that came from different companies: Meng Meiqi, Wu Xuanyi, Yang Chaoyue, Duan Aojuan, Yamy, Lai Meiyun, Zhang Zining, Sunnee, Li Ziting, Fu Jing and Xu Mengjie. Wu Xuanyi, is a Chinese singer and actress. She began her career in 2016, as a member of the South Korean girl group WJSN. She took a hiatus from the group in the first half of 2018 to compete as a contestant in Tencent Video's survival reality show, Produce 101 China, finishing in second place and joining the Chinese project girl group Rocket Girls 101 until June 2020. Following the disbandment of the project group, she remained on hiatus from WJSN to pursue a solo career in China until she left the group on March 3, 2023.

Zhang Zining, known by her stage name Zining, is a Chinese singer. She was the main vocalist of Chinese girl group MERA before taking part in the survival show Produce 101. She debuted as a member of Rocket Girls 101 after finishing seventh on the show. Zining officially graduated from Rocket Girls 101 on June 23, 2020, 2 years after their formation. She now pursues a solo career.
Jade Dynasty, also known as Jade Dynasty 1 and Zhu Xian, is a 2019 Chinese fantasy action film directed by Ching Siu-tung and starring Xiao Zhan, Li Qin, Meng Meiqi, and Tang Yixin. The film is adapted from Xiao Ding's eponymous novel. The film was released in China on September 13, 2019.

Breaking Through is a 2022 Chinese sports drama film from director Wang Fangfang, and stars Meng Meiqi and Xia Yu. The film, which is based on true events and of short-track speed skater Yang Yang, follows the Chinese national short-track speed skating team as they attempt to prevail in winning a gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, United States.
