The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Brunei Darussalam (MCYS, [3] Malay : Kementerian Kebudayaan, Belia dan Sukan, KKBS) is a ministry in the Government of Brunei Darussalam responsible for the policies and development of the country's national culture, youth, and sports. It was established immediately upon Brunei's independence on 1 January 1984. [1] [4] It is led by a minister, and the incumbent is Nazmi Mohamad [a] who has held office since 7 June 2022. [2] The ministry is headquartered in Bandar Seri Begawan, in the Brunei-Muara District of the sultanate of Brunei Darussalam.

The Sports School (Sekolah Sukan), the sole sports school in the country, was formerly managed by the ministry but has since been transferred to the Ministry of Education. [6] [ dead link ]

Budget

In the fiscal year 2022–2023, the ministry has been allocated a budget of B$98 million, [b] a 5.7 percent increase from the previous year. [3]

The prime minister of Brunei is the head of government of Brunei. Concurrently, the title is held by the sultan of Brunei, who as sultan is also the head of state of the country. The Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien College (SOASC), natively known as Maktab Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddien (MSOAS), is a government boys' secondary school in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. It is the first English secondary school in the country. The school is also one of the only three boys' secondary schools nationwide, with the other two being Muda Hashim Secondary School and Ma'had Islam Brunei. The school provides five years of secondary education leading up to GCE 'O' Level and IGCSE qualification.

Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof is a Bruneian aristocrat, politician and retired military office who is the incumbent Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Defence II. Kampong Kumbang Pasang, or simply Kumbang Pasang, is a village within Mukim Kianggeh in Brunei-Muara District, Brunei. It is also part of the municipal area of the capital Bandar Seri Begawan. The population was 563 in 2016. It has the postcode BA1511. The village formerly hosts a rubber plantation and was named Kumbang Pasang Estate. Notably the village was once its own Mukim, known as Mukim Kumbang Pasang.

The Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam, officially abbreviated as MinDef, is a cabinet-level ministry of the Government of Brunei. It is responsible for the national security and its military forces within the sultanate of Brunei Darussalam; the latter collectively known as the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF); Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei, (ABDB). The Istana Darussalam is the former residence of Omar Ali Saifuddien III and birthplace of Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah. The building has become a tourist attraction and currently under the protection of the Antiquities and Treasure Trove Act of the Museums Department.

Tasek Lama Recreational Park or Tasek Lama Park, is an urban park located along Jalan Tasek Lama of Kampong Tasek Lama, in the heart of Bandar Seri Begawan. As one of the oldest recognised parks in the nation, it features an artificial lake and waterfall. The park is a popular destination for both locals and visitors, offering a rare green space within the city. In addition to its scenic landscape, it is known for its diverse bird population, attracting birdwatchers to observe about 80 bird species known to exist there.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien</span> Public park in Brunei

Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien is a historical urban park, located in the Pusat Bandar of Bandar Seri Begawan, where significant state ceremonies are held, including the Sultan's birthday celebrations, National Day, the National Musabaqah Al-Quran, and the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, among others. Formerly known as Padang Besar, the park underwent renovations in 1983 and was renamed in honour of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III. This site holds historical importance, as it was the location of Brunei's declaration of independence reading on 1 January 1984.
