The National Art Gallery is a fine arts gallery of Shilpakala Academy in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It contains works of art from national artists, such as Zainul Abedin and Quamrul Hassan. [1]
In 1974, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, now called the National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, was established in Bangladesh. The academy became the sole conservationists and protectors of art in 2003 and founded the National Art Gallery. [2]
The National Art Gallery's two storied building, constructed on the National Academy of Fine and Performing Art grounds, exhibits ways to prevent aging due to environmental factors and artwork from their permanent and temporary collection. There are also rooms for educational purposes, such as lectures about art preservation. [2]
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is the principal state-sponsored national cultural centre of Bangladesh.
Zainul Abedin, also known as Shilpacharya was a prominent Bangladeshi painter. He became well known in 1944 through his series of paintings depicting some of the great famines in Bengal during its British colonial period. After the Partition of Indian subcontinent he moved to East Pakistan. In 1948, he helped to establish the Institute of Arts and Crafts at the University of Dhaka. The Indian Express has described him as a legendary Bangladeshi painter and activist. Like many of his contemporaries, his paintings on the Bengal famine of 1943 are viewed as his most characteristic works. His homeland honored him with given the title "Shilpacharya" "Great teacher of the arts" for his artistic and visionary attributes. He was the pioneer of the modern art movement that took place in Bangladesh and was rightly considered by Syed Manzoorul Islam as the founding father of Bangladeshi modern arts, soon after Bangladesh earned the status of an independent republic.
Sheikh Mohammed Sultan, popularly known as S M Sultan, was a Bengali decolonial artist who worked in painting and drawing. His fame rests on his striking depictions of exaggeratedly muscular Bangladeshi peasants engaged in the activities of their everyday lives. Sultan's early works were influenced by western technics and forms, particularly impressionism, however, in his later works particularly, works exhibited in 1976, we discover there is a constant temptation to decolonize his art technics and forms.
Shahabuddin Ahmed is a Bangladeshi painter. He was awarded the Chevalier De L'ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres by the Ministry of Cultural Affair and Communication of France in 2014. He was the recipient of Independence Day Award by the Government of Bangladesh in 2000. His paintings are displayed in galleries like Olympic Museum, Lausanne, Switzerland, Municipal Museum of Bourg-en-Bresse, France, Seoul Olympic Museum, South Korea, the National Taiwan Museum and Bangladesh National Museum.
Rashid Hossain Choudhury was a Bangladeshi second generation artist, sculptor, writer and professor. He played a major part in the art movements and improvement in the art-related educational institutions of Bangladesh. He has received numerous awards and recognition for creative contribution and innovative influence. During the 1950s, he had been a significant pioneer in the modern art movement in Bandladesh.
Syed Jahangir was a Bangladeshi painter. He was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 1985. He served as the department head of the Arts Faculty at Shilpakala Academy in 1977. His notable paintings include Attmar Ujjibon, Ullas, Dhoni, Ojana-Oneshya and Osoni-Sangket.
Abdus Shakoor is a Bangladeshi painter and calligrapher.
Dhaka Art Summit is an art summit held in Dhaka, Bangladesh and is organised by Samdani Art Foundation, a non- profit art infrastructure development organisation founded by Nadia Samdani. and Rajeeb Samdani in 2011.
The Moviyana Film Society is one of the largest film culture oriented organisations in Bangladesh. It was established on 10 November 2006. It regularly arranges Film Screenings, Film Festivals, Film Appreciation course and other Film making related courses in different cities of Bangladesh. Film maker & Writer Belayat Hossain Mamun is the founder and incumbent president of this organization.

He worked on both figurative as well as abstract genres.
Kazi Abdul Baset was a Bangladeshi painter and art teacher. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1991 by the Government of Bangladesh.
Kalidas Karmakar was a Bangladeshi artist. He specialized in viscosity printing. He was awarded Shilpakala Padak (2016) and the Ekushey Padak (2018) by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution to fine arts.
Maksudul Ahsan is a Bangladeshi artist and poet.
Jamal Uddin Ahmed is a Bangladeshi artist and professor. In recognition of his contribution to fine arts, the government of Bangladesh awarded him the country's second highest civilian award Ekushey Padak in 2019.
Segunbagicha is a major neighbourhood in south-central Dhaka. It is one of the important areas of Dhaka featuring a large number of government and residential complexes. The neighbourhood acts as a bridge between major thanas of Ramna, Shahbagh, Gulshan, Dhanmondi, Paltan and Motijheel.
