National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB, abbreviated to NEVS, is a Swedish electric car manufacturer which has acquired the assets of Saab from a bankruptcy estate in 2012.

NEVS is the trademark of the company’s products including the first electric vehicle based on the 9-3 platform which was to start in 2017.

History

On 31 August 2012, NEVS acquired the main assets of the Saab Automobile bankruptcy estates. In December 2015 the company signed a strategic collaboration agreement with the Chinese company Panda New Energy Co, an energy vehicle leasing company that focuses on limiting emissions. According to the agreement, NEVS will provide Panda with 150,000 9-3 sedan electric vehicles until the end of 2020. [2] [3] NEVS signed a battery contract with Contemporary Amperex Technology in 2017. [4] In 2017, DiDi, a Chinese transportation network company, announced a 4 billion SEK investment in NEVS. [5]

Owners and management

Evergrande Group in China acquired 51% of the shares in NEVS in January 2019. Evergrande has since then increased to 68% of the shares. National Energy Holding (owned by the founder Kai Johan Jiang) has 32% of the shares. [6]

Trollhättan Assembly is an automobile factory in Trollhättan, Sweden. The factory opened in 1947 under the ownership of Saab AB, then passing to Saab Automobile. From 1989 to 2010, the factory was partially (1989–1999), then completely (2000–2010) owned by General Motors. In 2010, Saab was sold to Spyker Cars. The name CODA comes from the musical term for the concluding passage of a piece of music. CODA Automotive has said that it chose the name because its electric vehicle technology represents an end for combustion engine vehicles, and the start of the electric vehicle era.

Kai Johan Jiang is a Swedish-Chinese businessman and company operator with business interests in Sweden and China. In 2004, Jiang founded State Power, a Chinese energy company active in the sustainable energy sources, mainly biomass. He is the CEO of State Power Group.

New energy vehicles in China

The stock of new energy vehicles in China is the world's largest, with cumulative sales of almost 3 million units through 2018. These figures include passenger cars and heavy-duty commercial vehicles such buses and sanitation trucks, and only accounts for vehicles manufactured in the country. The Chinese government uses the term new energy vehicles (NEVs) to designate plug-in electric vehicles eligible for public subsidies, and includes only battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV).

Automotive industry in Sweden

The automotive industry in Sweden is mainly associated with passenger car manufacturers Volvo Cars and Saab Automobile but Sweden is also home of two of the largest truck manufacturers in the world: Volvo AB and Scania AB. The automotive industry is heavily dependent on export as some 85 percent of the passenger cars and 95 percent of the heavy vehicles are sold outside of Sweden. National Modern Energy Holdings Ltd. (NME) is a British Virgin Islands-registered, Hong Kong-based holding company, which owns National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) together with Japan-based Sun Investment LLC. NEVS acquired the assets of Saab Automobile AB, Saab Automobile Powertrain AB, and Saab Automobile Tools AB from a bankruptcy estate. National Modern Energy Holdings has operations in China, Macau, and Hong Kong. The owner of the holding company and its subsidiaries is the Chinese-Swedish businessman Kai Johan Jiang.

Fisker Inc.

Fisker Inc. is an American electric vehicle automaker founded by Henrik Fisker. Launched in 2016 and based in Southern California, Fisker Inc. is the relaunch of the Fisker brand previously known as Fisker Automotive, which produced the Fisker Karma. Fisker Inc. is developing the Fisker EMotion, an all-electric sedan that will have a 400-mile electric range; an autonomous, all-electric shuttle called the Fisker Orbit; and a mass-market electric vehicle SUV called the Fisker Ocean.

Mercedes-Benz EQ family of battery electric vehicles produced by Mercedes Benz

Mercedes-Benz EQ is a series of battery electric vehicles manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. The first model was previewed at the Paris Motor Show in 2016 with the Generation EQ concept vehicle. Mercedes-Benz intends to produce ten EQ models by 2022, three of which will have the Smart brand, representing between 15% and 25% of the company's global sales. All of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle design and production efforts will target the EQ family.

Sono Motors Sion German solar-electric car

Sion is an announced solar powered, full electric car, currently being developed by the German start-up Sono Motors. Its battery can be charged using the electric grid or its own solar cells.

Byton is a Chinese all-electric vehicle automotive brand established in 2017 and incorporated in Hong Kong, co-founded by former BMW and Nissan Motor executives. Byton unveiled its first concept car to the public in January 2018. The company is currently running a trial shop at its Nanjing headquarters where drivable prototypes are built. It plans to introduce its M-Byte SUV model first, with the start of production scheduled for late 2019. The SUV will go on sale in China end of 2019, followed by the U.S. and European markets in the second half of 2020.
