History

The National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos commenced operations as a rehabilitation centre for wounded soldiers during World War II in 1943, after which it developed to a hospital under the British Colonial Medical services of Colonial Nigeria in 6 December 1945. The hospital, initially named the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in 1956 was also instrumental in treating wounded soldiers and civilians of the Nigerian Civil war of 1967-1970. The hospital was handed over to the Lagos State Government in 1975 and subsequently the Federal Government in 1979. [1] [2] [3]

Healthcare

The hospital has a staff strength of about 1300. It has an intensive care unit and a 450-bed capacity. The hospital is now reputed to be the largest orthopaedic hospital in West Africa. Mobolaji Bank Anthony funded a new section of the hospital which included the rehabilitation of the emergency ward. [1] [3] [4]

Babatunde Fashola Nigerian politician

Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who is the former Federal Minister of Works and Housing. He served two terms as Governor of Lagos State from May 29th, 2007 to May 29th, 2015. As a candidate of the Action Congress party, now known as the All Progressives Congress, Fashola succeeded Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the 14th of April, 2007, and was sworn in on the 29th of May, 2007. Fashola was re-elected on the 26th of April, 2011. On November 11th 2015, he was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to be the Minister of Power, Works and Housing; he was reappointed Minister of Works & Housing on the 21st of August 2019.

The Lagos–Kano Standard Gauge Railway is a standard gauge railway under construction in Nigeria. Once complete, it is expected to connect the country's two largest cities, the Atlantic Ocean port of Lagos in the southwest, and Kano, near the border with Niger, in the north, by way of the third-largest city Ibadan and the national capital Abuja in the centre. The railway will run parallel to the British-built Cape gauge line, which has a lower design capacity and is in a deteriorated condition.

Oloye Sir Mobolaji Bank Anthony, KBE was a Yoruba Nigerian businessman and philanthropist. He was a council President of the Lagos Stock Exchange and was a minority investor in Aero-Contractors before indigenous shares were acquired by the Ibru Organization. Mental health policies is a framework of the government highlighting its vision towards dealing with mental and neurological disorders in Nigeria Though there are policies aimed at addressing mental health issues in Nigeria, in-depth information on mental health service in Nigeria is non-existent. This makes it difficult to identify areas of needs, coordinate activities of advocacy groups, and to make informed decision about policy direction. In effect, there is continued neglect of mental health issues as well as the many challenges that results from it in spite of existing government policy. About 20 million Nigerians suffer from mental illness. A good number of them go without professional assistance. The World Health Organization estimates that only about three percent of the government's budget on health goes to mental health.
