The Pyralinae are the typical subfamily of snout moths and occur essentially worldwide, in some cases aided by involuntary introduction by humans. They are rather rare in the Americas however, and their diversity in the Australian region is also limited. Altogether, this subfamily includes about 900 described species, but new ones continue to be discovered. Like many of their relatives in the superfamily Pyraloidea, the caterpillar larvae of many Pyralinae – and in some cases even the adults – have evolved the ability to use unusual foods for nutrition; a few of these can become harmful to humans as pests of stored goods.
Asura is a genus of moths in the subfamily Arctiinae, and subtribe Nudariina erected by Francis Walker in 1854.
The genus Crambus includes around 155 species of moths in the family Crambidae, distributed globally. The adult stages are called crambid snout moths, while the larvae of Crambus and the related genus Herpetogramma are the sod webworms, which can damage grasses.
The Caradrinini are a mid-sized tribe of moths in the family Noctuidae.
Bradina is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae.
Cangetta is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae.
Fernandocrambus is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae.
Metasia is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae.
Udea is a genus of snout moths in the subfamily Spilomelinae of the family Crambidae. The genus was erected by Achille Guenée in 1845. The currently known 216 species are present on all continents except Antarctica. About 41 species are native to Hawaii.
Neurophyseta is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae.
Lygropia is a genus of snout moths in the subfamily Spilomelinae of the family Crambidae. It currently comprises 66 species, which are mostly found in the tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, Africa and Asia, but not in Australia.
Pyrausta is a speciose genus of moths of the family Crambidae. The genus was erected by Franz von Paula Schrank in 1802.
Pycnarmon is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae described by Julius Lederer in 1863.
Psara is a genus of moths in the family Crambidae described by Snellen in 1875.
Petrophila is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae. The genus was described by Lansdown Guilding in 1830.
Phostria is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae.
Scoparia is a grass moth genus of subfamily Scopariinae. Some authors have assigned the synonymous taxon Sineudonia to the snout moth family (Pyralidae), where all grass moths were once also included, but this seems to be in error.
Ugia is a genus of moths in the family Erebidae erected by Francis Walker in 1858.
Desmia is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae. The genus was erected by John O. Westwood in 1832.
Acentropinae is a fairly small subfamily of the lepidopteran family Crambidae, the crambid snout moths. Species of this subfamily are exclusively found in wetlands and aquatic habitats.
