North Savo [2] (or Northern Savonia; Finnish : Pohjois-Savo; Swedish : Norra Savolax) is a region in eastern Finland. It borders the regions of South Savo, Central Finland, North Ostrobothnia, Kainuu, and North Karelia. Kuopio is the largest city in the region and Lake Kallavesi is the largest lake in the region.
The region's traditional food is a fish and bacon filling pie called Kalakukko . [3]

Results of the 2019 Finnish parliamentary election in North Savo:
Savonia is a historical province in the east of Finland. It borders Tavastia, Ostrobothnia and Karelia. Savonia is now divided into two provinces: North Savonia and South Savonia. The largest cities in Savonia by population are Kuopio, Mikkeli, Savonlinna, Varkaus and Iisalmi.
Eastern Finland was a province of Finland from 1997 to 2009. It bordered the provinces of Oulu, Western Finland and Southern Finland. It also bordered Russia to the east.
Finland is divided into 19 regions which are governed by regional councils that serve as forums of cooperation for the municipalities of each region. The councils are composed of delegates from the municipal councils. The main tasks of regional councils are regional planning, the development of enterprises, and education. Between 2004 and 2012, the regional council of Kainuu was elected via popular elections as part of an experimental regional administration.
The former Province of Eastern Finland in Finland was divided into three regions, 11 districts and 49 municipalities.

Juva is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the Southern Savonia region some 270 kilometres (170 mi) North-East of Helsinki. It was founded on 19 January 1442, and is the oldest parish/municipality in Finland whose exact date of birth is known. At the time, it was only the second parish in Eastern Finland, and later, several other parishes were separated from it, such as Sääminki,, Kuopio, Iisalmi, Pieksämäki, Joroinen, Leppävirta, Siilinjärvi, Lapinlahti and Maaninka. Secular municipal administration was established in 1868.

Lapinlahti is a municipality of Finland. It is part of the Northern Savonia region, located 59 kilometres (37 mi) north of the city of Kuopio. The municipality has a population of 8,975 and covers an area of 1,245.16 square kilometres (480.76 sq mi) of which 148.58 km2 (57.37 sq mi) is water. The population density is 8.18 inhabitants per square kilometre (21.2/sq mi). The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
Leppävirta is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the Northern Savonia region, 56 kilometres (35 mi) south of Kuopio along the Finnish national road 5. The municipality has a population of 9,049 (31 December 2023) and covers an area of 1,519.64 square kilometres (586.74 sq mi) of which 383.62 km2 (148.12 sq mi) is water. The population density is 7.96 inhabitants per square kilometre (20.6/sq mi).
Pieksämäki is a town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the Southern Savonia region, about 75 kilometres (47 mi) north of Mikkeli, 85 kilometres (53 mi) east of Jyväskylä and 95 kilometres (59 mi) south of Kuopio. The town has a population of 17,050 and covers an area of 1,836.22 square kilometres (708.97 sq mi) of which 266.76 km2 (103.00 sq mi) is water. The population density is 10.87 inhabitants per square kilometre (28.2/sq mi). Neighbour municipalities are Hankasalmi, Joroinen, Juva, Kangasniemi, Leppävirta, Mikkeli, Rautalampi and Suonenjoki.
Pielavesi is a municipality of Finland. It is part of the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 4,073 and covers an area of 1,406.51 square kilometres (543.06 sq mi) of which 253.27 km2 (97.79 sq mi) is water. The population density is 3.53 inhabitants per square kilometre (9.1/sq mi). The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
Rautalampi is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 2,933 and covers an area of 761.98 square kilometres (294.20 sq mi) of which 222.99 km2 (86.10 sq mi) is water. The population density is 5.44 inhabitants per square kilometre (14.1/sq mi). The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
Sonkajärvi is a municipality of Finland. It is located in Northern Savonia region, 105 kilometres (65 mi) north of Kuopio. The municipality has a population of 3,637 and covers an area of 1,576.78 square kilometres (608.80 sq mi) of which 110.86 km2 (42.80 sq mi) is water. The population density is 2.48 inhabitants per square kilometre (6.4/sq mi). The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
Suonenjoki is a town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the Northern Savonia region, 50 kilometres (31 mi) southwest of Kuopio.
Tervo is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 1,412, making it Northern Savonia's least populous municipality. It covers an area of 494.30 square kilometres (190.85 sq mi) of which 146.52 km2 (56.57 sq mi) is water. The population density is 4.06 inhabitants per square kilometre (10.5/sq mi).
The Savonian dialects are forms of the Finnish language spoken in Savonia and other parts of Eastern Finland. Finnish dialects are grouped broadly into Eastern and Western varieties; Savonian dialects are of the Eastern variety.
Savonia University of Applied Sciences is a local municipality-owned Finnish institution of higher education based in the cities of Kuopio, Iisalmi and Varkaus.
The Kuopio Province was a province of Finland from 1831 to 1997. The province was named after its capital, city of Kuopio.
Finnish national road 5 is a main route connecting Lusi (Heinola) in the south of the country to Sodankylä in the north. It is 905 kilometres long. National road 5 forms part of the E63 between Vehmasmäki (Kuopio) and Sodankylä.
The Savonia railway is a five-foot-gauge railway in Finland. Beginning at Kouvola, it connects southern Finland with the eastern regions of South Savo and North Savo via the cities of Pieksämäki, Kuopio and Iisalmi.
