Oakland Aviation High School was a public charter high school in Oakland, California.

History

The Oakland Aviation High School Design Team was formed in 2002 through a partnership with Oakland Community Organizations, the Port of Oakland, and the College of Alameda with participation and support from the Tuskegee Airmen, Western Aerospace Museum, Oakland Unified School District, and EC Reems Academy of Technology and Art. As a California Public Charter School, it did not charge tuition and or have any admission requirements.

Students at the school were enrolled in one of three major areas of concentration: Aviation Maintenance Technology; preparation for a career in business or international trade; or a personalized business internship program. The school opened in 2005. [1]

Despite its unique program and offerings, [2] during its first four years, the school struggled to maintain the needed student enrollment and performance results. [3]

In 2011, the school's aviation science teacher was selected by NASA for the "Explorer Schools" program, to participate in summer research experiences and professional development opportunities "based on their demonstrated innovative use of project materials and an elevated and meaningful level of project participation." [4] That year, he participated in research projects with the agency, launching weather balloons and performing microgravity experiments.

After a hearing with the Oakland City School Board in March 2011, the school's charter was not renewed, [5] and the campus was shuttered in June 2011, [6] [7] graduating only two classes.

San Leandro High School is a four-year public high school in San Leandro, California, USA. The school is a member of the San Leandro Unified School District. In 2007, the School District bought land for a new building to house the freshman class to relieve overcrowding at SLHS. This move has met with some opposition due to the separation of the freshman class from the rest of the school. The freshman campus is named the "Fred T. Korematsu Campus", after civil rights activist Fred Korematsu who had significant connections to San Leandro. As of the 2017–2018 school year, the campus had its status removed as a 9th grade only campus and now houses the math and foreign language department for all grade levels, with some exceptions.

Oakland Charter Academy (OCA) originally Jingletown Charter School, is a charter school in Oakland, California serving middle school students. Opened in 1994, it is the first and oldest charter school in Oakland and one of the first in California. After a dramatic turnaround, it became the second public school in Oakland to win the National Blue Ribbon award. The school was also given the Hart Vision Charter School of the Year Award for 2009 by the California Charter Schools Association. The Amethod Public Schools system grew out of Oakland Charter Academy, and now includes Oakland Charter High School and Downtown Charter Academy located in downtown Oakland. The system also operates Benito Juarez Elementary School, Richmond Charter Academy and John Henry High School in Richmond.

Port of Los Angeles High School (POLAHS) is a public charter tuition-free high school in San Pedro, California, United States. It was established in 2005, and fuses a college preparatory program with elective coursework in International Business and Maritime Studies. Such studies reinforce the significant impact of California's ports on the global economy and international trade. Although under the umbrella of the Los Angeles Unified School District, the charter school is run by its own independent school district, Port of Los Angeles High School District.
