The Cimicomorpha are an infraorder of insects in the order Hemiptera, the true bugs. The rostrum and other morphology of all members apparently is adapted to feeding on animals as their prey or hosts. Members include bed bugs, bat bugs, assassin bugs, and pirate bugs.
The Lygaeidae are a family in the Hemiptera, with more than 110 genera in four subfamilies. The family includes the insects commonly known as milkweed bugs, and also some of those known as seed bugs. The family was vastly larger, but numerous former subfamilies have been removed and given independent family status, including the Artheneidae, Blissidae, Cryptorhamphidae, Cymidae, Geocoridae, Heterogastridae, Ninidae, Oxycarenidae and Rhyparochromidae, which together constituted well over half of the former family. Many of the species feed on seeds, although some feed on sap (mucivory), and a few, such as the wekiu bug, feed on insects.
Arilus is a genus of bugs in the family Reduviidae, subfamily Harpactorinae and tribe Harpactorini. Most species are found in the Americas.
Tropidothorax is a genus of seed bugs or ground bugs belonging to the family Lygaeidae, subfamily Lygaeinae. There are about 11 described species in Tropidothorax.
Synaphaeta is a monotypic beetle genus in the family Cerambycidae first described by Thomson in 1864. Its only species, Synaphaeta guexi, occurs in the Pacific states of North America, from British Columbia down to California. It has been reared from a variety of hardwood trees, including Pacific willow , white alder , coffeeberry , English walnut , and cherry . It was described by John Lawrence LeConte in 1852 based on a specimen from Benicia, California.
Rhopalinae is a subfamily of scentless plant bugs in the family Rhopalidae. There are at least 20 genera and more than 170 described species in Rhopalinae.
Lygaeus is a genus of seed bugs in the family Lygaeidae. There are more than 60 described species in Lygaeus.
Neortholomus is a genus of seed bugs in the family Lygaeidae. There are about nine described species in Neortholomus.
Orsillini is a tribe of seed bugs in the family Lygaeidae. The type genus is Orsillus.
Orsillinae is a subfamily of seed bugs in the family Lygaeidae. There are at least 110 described species in Orsillinae; the type genus is Orsillus.
Cercyon is a genus of water scavenger beetles in the family Hydrophilidae. There are at least 50 described species in Cercyon.
Eremocoris is a genus of dirt-colored seed bugs in the family Rhyparochromidae. There are at least 45 described species in the genus Eremocoris.
Urocerus is a genus of horntails in the family Siricidae. There are about eight described species in Urocerus.
Sparedrus is a genus of false blister beetles in the family Oedemeridae. There are more than seven described species in Sparedrus.
Romualdius scaber, known generally as the crusted root weevil or crusted grass weevil, is a species of broad-nosed weevil in the beetle family Curculionidae. It is found in Europe and North America.
Teratocoris is a genus of plant bugs in the family Miridae. There are about 11 described species in Teratocoris.
Vibertiola is a genus of assassin bugs in the tribe Rhaphidosomatini. Species have been recorded from southern Europe and North-West Africa.
Callitettix is a genus of bugs in the family Cercopidae ("froghoppers") in the suborder Auchenorrhyncha and the monotypic subfamily Callitettixinae. The recorded distribution for species is in mainland Asia: from India to southern China and Indochina.
