Location

The hamlet is located south-west of the city of Carlisle and north of the village of Thursby. Other nearby settlements include the village of Great Orton and the hamlets of Little Orton, Cumbria, Baldwinholme, Nealhouse and Cardewless.

Transport

For transport there is the B5307 road, the A595 road, and the A596 road nearby. There is also the Carlisle railway station, which is on the Settle-Carlisle Line.

The A595 is a primary route in Cumbria, in Northern England that starts in Carlisle, passes through Whitehaven and goes close to Workington, Cockermouth and Wigton. It passes Sellafield and Ravenglass before ending at the Dalton-in-Furness by-pass, in southern Cumbria, where it joins the A590 trunk road. Orton, Eden Village in Cumbria, England

Orton is a village and civil parish in Cumbria, England. It lies 15 miles (24 km) south of Penrith, 8 miles (13 km) from Appleby-in-Westmorland and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the M6 motorway. It is in the upper Lune Valley, set at the foot of Orton Scar in the Orton Fells. The Lake District is nearby. A few miles from Orton Scar is the Eden valley. The parish, historically in the county of Westmorland, now belongs to the Eden district of Cumbria. The parish had a population of 594 in 2001, decreasing to 588 at the 2011 Census.

The University of Cumbria is a public university in Cumbria, with its headquarters in Carlisle and other major campuses in Lancaster, Ambleside, and London.
