Patrice A. McCarthy (born 1953) [1] is an American politician serving as the 11th Washington State Auditor since 2017. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
McCarthy earned her Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies from the University of Washington Tacoma in 1992. [2]
McCarthy served as the school board director for the Tacoma School District from 1987 to 1999 [3] and as the county executive of Pierce County,Washington from 2009 to 2017. [4]
In 2016,McCarthy was elected Washington State Auditor,defeating Republican Mark Miloscia with 52% of the vote. [5] [6] [7] She won reelection in 2020,receiving 58 percent of the vote against Republican Chris Leyba. [8] [9] On August 1,2023,McCarthy announced she would be running for a third term in 2024. [10] She was reelected again with 58% of the vote against Republican Matt Hawkins. [11]
Her husband,John,has served on the Port of Tacoma commission and as a judge of the Pierce County Superior Court. Their son,Conor,served on the Tacoma City Council,before resigning to become a lobbyist for Comcast. [12] [13]
The Washington State Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Washington,headquartered in Seattle. It includes the eastern portions of King,Pierce,and Snohomish counties,and crosses the Cascade Range to include Chelan and Kittitas counties,as well as a precinct in East Wenatchee in Douglas County. The district's western part includes the exurban communities of Sammamish,Issaquah,and Maple Valley but does not include Seattle and Tacoma's more immediate suburbs. On its east side,the 8th's population centers include the rural communities Wenatchee,Leavenworth,and Ellensburg. It is currently represented in the U.S. House of Representatives by Democrat Kim Schrier,who was first elected to the seat in 2018.
Washington's 6th congressional district encompasses the Olympic Peninsula,the Kitsap Peninsula,and most of the city of Tacoma. Its counties include the entirety of Clallam,Kitsap,Mason,Jefferson,and Grays Harbor counties,and part of Pierce County. The 6th district has been represented in the U.S. House of Representatives by Emily Randall,a Democrat from Bremerton,since January 2025.

Mark Anthony Miloscia is an American politician and former public school teacher who served in the Washington State Senate from 2015 to 2019. A Democrat for more than twenty years,in 2014 he switched to the Republican Party and ran for election to represent the 30th Legislative District in the state senate - winning by more than ten percentage points. In 2016,Miloscia ran for state auditor as a Republican,he lost the general election to Democrat Pat McCarthy by 5 percentage points. He represented the 30th legislative district for seven terms,from 1999 to 2013,in the Washington House of Representatives.
Kimberley Marie Wyman is an American politician who served as the 15th Secretary of State of Washington from 2013 to 2021. Wyman resigned as Secretary of State on November 19,2021,to work on election security at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in the Biden administration. As of 2024,Wyman is the last Republican to have held statewide office in the State of Washington,or in any of the three contiguous West Coast states.
