Caskey was first elected in 2016 and continues to serve the constituents of District 89. Prior to working in the South Carolina legislature, Caskey worked as the Assistant Solicitor for the 11th Circuit (2014–2016), and also served in the United States Marine Corps (2003–2013), earning the rank of captain.

Richard A. Eckstrom is an American politician from the state of South Carolina. A Republican, he served as the comptroller general of South Carolina from 2003 until his resignation in 2023. From 1995 to 1999, he served one term as the South Carolina Treasurer. When elected as Comptroller General, he was the first Republican to serve in the post since 1876.

McMaster appointed Gaines to avoid a constitutional crisis; since the office was vacant, no person could authorize the distribution of funds.
