West Overton is located approximately 40 miles (64 km) southeast of Pittsburgh, in East Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is on PA 819 between the towns of Mount Pleasant and Scottdale. Its latitude is 40.117N and its longitude is -79.564W.

The district includes 9 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, and 4 contributing structures associated with a 19th and early 20th century grist mill. The buildings include a small barn, the stone grist mill (destroyed), and three stone or brick vernacular houses. The mill is a three-story, five level stone building with a slate covered gambrel roof. The most prominent structure is an iron Pratt truss bridge built in 1867, and known as County Bridge #16. The mill was destroyed by fire.

Historic buildings located here include early settlement period log cabins, which were built between 1723 and 1750; buildings related to the Charming Forge community, which existed between 1749 and 1895; an early 18th century cemetery and early 19th century church; buildings related to 18th and 19th century farming operations; and structures associated with the development and operation of the Union Canal.
Dyerstown Historic District is a national historic district located in Dyerstown, Plumstead Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The district includes 17 contributing buildings and 3 contributing structures in the crossroads village of Dyerstown. It is a largely residential district, with dwellings dating to the turn of the 19th century. The most recent dwelling was built about 1870. Some of the houses are reflective of vernacular Georgian style. The district also includes a former grist mill and associated outbuildings. The contributing structures are a stone arch bridge, and head race, dam, and remains of the mill race.

The district encompasses nine contributing buildings, two contributing sites, and four contributing structures. “Boykin Mill” denotes a community which consists of an old post office, an old general store, a c. 1905 grist mill, mill pond, mill dam, gates, and canals. The community also includes an early 19th-century Greek Revival style Baptist church, one mid-19th-century residence, three 20th-century residences built for mill workers, and a smoke house. An American Civil War battle site is also a part of the Boykin Mill community. The Battle of Boykin's Mill took place on April 17, 1865.
