Critical reception
"Propane Nightmares" has received mixed reviews from music critics, mostly as a result of the change in style compared to older tracks produced by Pendulum. Some reviewers praised the new direction that the band had taken, for example Gerard McGarry wrote, in an article for Unreality Music, that Pendulum "have created an epic song that – for our money – fuses their penchant for dance and rock music beautifully". [7] Jo-Ann Greene of Allmusic described the song as "another sizzling single" in her review of In Silico , [8] while Fiona McGlynn wrote that "...Propane Nightmares is a fresh take on a merge of genres that actually works", in her single review for the Manchester Evening News . [9] It was also named 38th in Q magazine's Q50 of April 2008.
The track also received some criticism, mostly derived from Pendulum's migration from drum and bass to a more rock-imbued sound. In his review for AngryApe, Tim Johnson pointed out that "the problem... lies in Pendulum trying to cram too much into one space... almost like two or three different songs being played on top of one another". [10] Simon Catling went further, writing an open letter in the webzine God Is in the TV to Pendulum asking them to "decide whether [they] wish to be a band or a drum n’ bass act" and commenting that "at the moment all [they're] providing us with is a horribly half-baked and shoddy form of neither". [11]
On 22 July 2008, it was announced that "Propane Nightmares" had been nominated for Best Single at the Kerrang! Awards 2008 ceremony, alongside singles from four other rock bands. [12] The ceremony was held on 21 August, and Pendulum lost to Thirty Seconds to Mars who took Best Single with their song "From Yesterday". [13]

"Freak on a Leash" is a song by the American nu metal band Korn, featured on the group's 1998 studio album, Follow the Leader. The song uses dissonance, distortion, various guitar effects, and a heavy, aggressive style.
Pendulum is an Australian electronic rock band founded in 2002. Pendulum originally formed in the city of Perth, Western Australia, by Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen and Paul "El Hornet" Harding. The band was later expanded to include members Ben Mount, Peredur ap Gwynedd and KJ Sawka. The group is notable for its distinctive sound, mixing electronic music with hard rock and covering a wide range of genres.
"Sugar, We're Goin Down" is a song by American rock band Fall Out Boy, released to US radio on April 4, 2005 as the lead single from their second album, From Under the Cork Tree. Two different CD singles were released with different B-sides, Part I with a green cover and Part II with a red cover. With music composed by vocalist Patrick Stump and lyrics penned by bassist Pete Wentz, the single reached No. 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Fall Out Boy's first top-10 hit and exploding the band into the mainstream, exposing them to a new audience. Hold Your Colour is the debut studio album by the Australian drum and bass band Pendulum, released on 25 July 2005 and later reissued in 2007 by Breakbeat Kaos. The album was mastered by Stuart Hawkes at Metropolis in London. The album features collaborations with artists such as the DJs Fresh and TC, the MCs $pyda and Fats, vocalists from bands Freestylers and Halogen, and guitarists from bands Karnivool and Concord Dawn, together with Peredur ap Gwynedd.
American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold has released eight studio albums, one soundtrack album, one live album, two compilation albums, 24 singles, two video albums and 29 music videos. Formed in Huntington Beach, California in 1999, the band originally featured vocalist M. Shadows, guitarist Zacky Vengeance, bassist Matt Wendt and drummer The Rev. Synyster Gates joined as lead guitarist in 2001, just after the group released their debut album Sounding the Seventh Trumpet on Good Life Recordings, which was later reissued on Hopeless Records.
Robert Swire-Thompson is an Australian record producer, singer, songwriter, and DJ. He is the founder and vocalist of the drum and bass and electronic rock band Pendulum, as well as DJ and co-founder of electro house duo Knife Party formed of Swire and Gareth McGrillen.
"Famous Last Words" is a song by American rock band My Chemical Romance. It was released as the band's second single on January 22, 2007 from their third studio album, The Black Parade. It is also the band's ninth overall single, and the final track on The Black Parade. The music video premiered on December 12, 2006 on MTV2 and on December 13, 2006 on the Much Music program, and on MuchOnDemand in Canada.
"Given Up" is a song by American rock band Linkin Park. The song was released as the fourth single from their third studio album, Minutes to Midnight. It was released on February 17, 2008 in the UK as a digital download. The song was not as much of a success as what was expected in the US, although it did manage to chart high on the Alternative Songs music chart. Chester Bennington's ability to hold a note for 17 seconds (2:27-2:44) is considered the highlight of the song.
In Silico is the second studio album by Australian drum and bass band Pendulum, released in Australia and Europe on 12 May 2008 by Warner Bros. Records and in the United States a day later by Atlantic Records. The album represents a change in sound for the band from their debut album Hold Your Colour away from drum and bass, incorporating more rock and electronic influences. The album peaked at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart on 18 May 2008. Singles from the album include "Granite", "Propane Nightmares", "The Other Side" and "Showdown". Mini discs of the song "The Tempest" were thrown out to the audience of the "Project Rev" live show.

"Granite" is a song by Australian drum and bass band Pendulum, released as the first single from their second studio album In Silico. It was released through Warner Music UK, and through the band's new Earstorm imprint with Warner Music Group. The song entered the UK Singles Chart on 11 November 2007, peaking at number 29 on 2 December. The single is supposedly inspired by the likes of video game boss battles, including the theme of various battles against the Mario series' Bowser; specifically, it directly samples the beginning of the music from the castle stages in Super Mario World. Q magazine named it 24th in the 50 top records of December 2007. When played in reverse, the main melody changes into the melody used in the end of the song, and vice versa. The song is featured in Need for Speed Undercover, and also an ATV game of Pure.
"The Other Side" is a song by Australian drum and bass band Pendulum, released as the third single from their second album In Silico. It was released on 28 July 2008 to coincide with their iTunes Festival gig at London's KOKO. The song peaked at number 54 in the UK Singles Chart on 3 August, one week after it was first released.
"Slam" is a song by Australian drum and bass band Pendulum. It was released on 19 September 2005 by independent label Breakbeat Kaos as a double A-side single with "Out Here", and it was their third release with the label. It peaked number 34 on the UK Singles Chart. Both songs have been included on their CD release of Hold Your Colour in July 2005. "Slam", as well as the "Prelude" track from Hold Your Colour, samples spoken word sections from the Headhunterz song "Rock Civilization". When the song is performed live with the full band, the first minute and a half is cut out and replaced by part of the Metallica song, "Master of Puppets". However, when the song was played in DJ sets prior to 2006, the track "Prelude" was played before it, as "Slam" was always the first track played.
"Showdown" is the fourth single and first track from the album In Silico by Australian electronic rock band Pendulum. It has been remixed by several artists, including DJ Clipz and Excision. It is also the first single taken from In Silico not to use the album logo prominently on its cover.
Paul Kodish is an English musician and professional drummer, raised in Willesden, London. Kodish has performed with a variety of different artists, including the hip hop act Whodini in 1986, and the drum and bass group Bad Company. He was also one of two drummers for the electronica band Apollo 440 between 1997 and 2005 and the drummer in the Australian-British drum and bass band Pendulum between 2006 and 2009. Kodish spent a short time in 2010 drumming with the Liverpool band Killaflaw, performing at several concerts and drumming for their debut album Sleaze and Grit. He currently supports DJ Fresh's crew on their FRESH/Live tour.
"Dog Days Are Over" is a song by English indie rock band Florence and the Machine from their debut album Lungs (2009). It was originally scheduled for release on 24 November 2008 through Moshi Moshi Records in the UK as the album's second single, but was later pushed back for release on 1 December 2008. A day later on 2 December 2008 the single was released in download and seven-inch vinyl format through IAMSOUND Records in the US. The B-side to the single is a cover of "You Got the Love" by The Source featuring Candi Staton which later was confirmed as a track on their debut album and the band's fifth single. The single reached the top 30 in Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
"Watercolour" is the first single from the third album Immersion by Australian drum and bass band Pendulum. This song has been remixed by dubstep artist Emalkay and by progressive house artist deadmau5. The video was shot on 16 March 2010 at a studio in East London featuring around 70 fans as extras. A behind-the-scenes video was released on the official Pendulum website. The music video was released as a Myspace exclusive on 31 March.
"Nightmare" is a song by American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold. It was released on May 18, 2010, as the lead single for their fifth studio album, Nightmare. The song was featured as one of four easter egg songs on the map Moon in Call of Duty: Black Ops' Zombies gamemode.
"Crush" is the fourth single from Australian drum and bass band Pendulum released from their third studio album, Immersion. Its release was set to coincide with the iTunes Immersion LP. The official video for the song was released on 7 January 2011 by BBC Radio 1 on their website. It was directed by Tim Qualtrough, who previously directed the official video for the single "Propane Nightmares". A "Crush" screensaver was released to promote the single. The song reached number 92 on the UK Singles Chart, staying on the chart for one week.
