Pulvinaria psidii (guava scale; green shield scale; guava mealy scale), is a species of soft scale insect in the family Coccidae. [1]
Guava is a common tropical fruit cultivated in many tropical and subtropical regions. Psidium guajava is a small tree in the myrtle family (Myrtaceae), native to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and northern South America. Although related species may also be called guavas, they belong to other species or genera, such as the pineapple guava, Acca sellowiana. In 2016, India was the largest producer of guavas, with 41% of the world total.
Puccinia is a genus of fungi. All species in this genus are obligate plant pathogens and are known as rusts. The genus contains about 4000 species.
Puccinia psidii, also known as guava rust or ʻōhiʻa rust, is a rust native to Brazil with a very broad host range in the myrtle family (Myrtaceae). Puccinia psidii can have very serious consequences to various species of plants in the Myrtaceae. This family includes guava, eucalyptus, melaleuca, and a number of species native to Hawaii, including some endemic species and at least one important native forest tree. There are numerous strains of the Puccinia psidii rust—some known to be established in Florida, and at least one reported from California and there is concern that strains may exist or develop that could be devastating to ʻōhiʻa, one of Hawaii's dominant native trees, a foundation species for many remaining Hawaiian native ecosystems. However currently, the major threat of Puccinia in Hawaii is the massive damage it is doing to Eugenia koolauensis, a federally listed endangered species.
Eutachyptera is a monotypic moth genus in the family Lasiocampidae. The genus was erected by William Barnes and James Halliday McDunnough in 1912. Its single species, Eutachyptera psidii, was first described by Sallé in 1857. It is found in Mexico.
Pulvinaria is a scale insect genus in the family Coccidae. The type species is Coccus vitis Linnaeus.

Pulvinaria regalis is a species of scale insect in the family Coccidae. Although it is commonly known as the horse chestnut scale, it affects other trees besides horse chestnuts as well as many species of woody shrubs. Adults are normally all female and produce eggs by parthenogenesis. The insects are thought to have originated in Asia but arrived in Europe in the second half of the twentieth century.
Dysmicoccus is a genus of scales and mealybugs in the family Pseudococcidae. There are at least 110 described species in Dysmicoccus.
Saissetia coffeae, known generally as hemispherical scale, is a species of soft scale insect in the family Coccidae. Other common names include the helmet scale and coffee brown scale.
Lepidosaphes is a genus of scales and mealybugs in the family Diaspididae. There are at least 150 described species in Lepidosaphes.
Pinnaspis strachani is a species of armored scale insect in the family Diaspididae.
Hemiberlesia lataniae, the latania or palm scale, is a species of armored scale insect in the family Diaspididae. It was first described by the French entomologist Victor Antoine Signoret in 1869 using Latania lontaroides, a species of palm tree endemic to Réunion as its host; since then, it has been found on avocado trees growing in South Africa, Australia, Israel, the United States, and on a range of other plants in many parts of the world.
Ischnaspis longirostris is a species of armored scale insect in the family Diaspididae.
Aspidiotus destructor, the coconut scale, is a species of armored scale insect in the family Diaspididae.
