Pushpa Girimaji is an author, journalist, consumer rights columnist and consumer safety advocate. She is the only Indian journalist to have written a weekly consumer column continuously for over three decades.

Career

Girimaji began her career in Journalism in 1976 with City Tab, a community paper published from Bangalore. After City Tab, she worked for Deccan Herald in Bangalore before moving on to The Indian Express out of Delhi in 1982. In 1983, she started her consumer column and its syndication which was published in variety of papers: The Times of India , Divya Bhaskar out of Gujarat, Amar Ujala , Dainik Bhaskar , Dainik Jagran , and Samyukta Karnataka and Vijaya Karnataka , both from Kannada.

She was a member of the first advisory committee of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) from 2000 to 2003 and was involved fully in the drafting of a number of regulations, particularly the regulation on the protection of policy holders interests. She played an important role in the Consumer Protection Act of 1986 and in the numerous amendments to the law. [1]

In recognition of her work in the area of consumer safety, the Underwriters Laboratory, USA, has made her a member of its Consumer Advisory council. [2]

She has also been the recipient of numerous awards for her professional work, including the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, The Sanskriti Award, M.R, Pai Award and the Chamelidevi Jain Award. [3]

Currently, she writes two exclusive columns every week - one for the Hindustan Times and the other for The Tribune .[ citation needed ]

Chitra Subramaniam Duella is an Indian journalist. She is recognized in India for her investigation of the Bofors-India Howitzer deal which is widely believed to have contributed to the electoral defeat of former prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1989. She founded CSDconsulting, a Geneva based specialised consultancy working in the area of public health, trade policy, development directions and media. She is also the co-founder and Managing Editor of The News Minute – an online news website. She was an Editorial Adviser for Republic TV of Arnab Goswami. In 1989, she was honoured with the Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediaperson.

Vijay Jawaharlal Darda is a politician from Indian National Congress party, and a Member of the Parliament of India representing Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha since 1998, having been elected for three consecutive terms into the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He is the chairman of the Lokmat Media Group. He is also the President of the Akhil Bhartiya Sakal Jain Samaj. Darda was President of the Indian Newspaper Society, New Delhi from 1997 to 1998. He continues to be a member of its executive committee.

Vijay Kumar Chopra

Vijay Kumar Chopra is the chief executive officer and editor in chief of the Punjab Kesari print news organisation. He is involved in social welfare work and has received a Padma Shri award. In August 2009, he was elected by the Chairman of the Press Trust of India.

Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) is a regulatory body under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Finance, Government of India and is tasked with regulating and licensing the insurance and re-insurance industries in India. It was constituted by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority Act, 1999, an Act of Parliament passed by the Government of India. The agency's headquarters are in Hyderabad, Telangana, where it moved from Delhi in 2001.

Neha Dixit is an Indian freelance journalist, covering politics, gender and social justice. She is a visiting faculty at Ashoka University and has been awarded with the Chameli Devi Jain Award (2016) as well as CPJ International Press Freedom Award (2019).

Patricia Mukhim is an Indian social activist, writer, journalist and the editor of Shillong Times, known for her social activism. Michelle Müntefering German journalist and politician

Michelle-Jasmin Gabriele Müntefering is a German journalist and politician (SPD). She was a member of the party executive board in North Rhine-Westphalia from 2004 to 2014. She was elected to the German Bundestag and won her direct mandate for Herne – Bochum II in the 2013 and the 2017 federal election. In addition, she served as Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office under minister Heiko Maas in the fourth government of Chancellor Angela Merkel from 2018 until 2021.

The Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediaperson is an Indian journalism award named after Chameli Devi Jain, an Indian independence activist who became the first Jain woman to go to prison during India's independence struggle. The award was instituted in 1980 by The Media Foundation and is given to women in the field of journalism. According to Business Standard, the award is "perhaps India's longest running media award for women".

Arfa Khanum Sherwani is an Indian journalist, and the senior editor of The Wire. She was the only Indian journalist to cover the 2014 Afghan presidential elections. She is an alumna of Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia. She has received the Red Ink Award and the Chameli Devi Jain Award.

Bano Megolhusau Haralu is a journalist and a conservationist. She worked with Doordarshan, NDTV and was the editor of Eastern Mirror. She was awarded the Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediapersons and Nari Shakti Puraskar. She is a Director of the Nagaland Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Trust.

Pamela Philipose is an Indian journalist and researcher, who is a senior fellow at the Indian Council of Social Science Research. She was the recipient of the Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediapersons in 1999 and has served as an advisor to the Media Task Force of the high level committee of the Government of India. In the 2020 edition of the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, she was appointed as one of the jurors along with the likes of B. N. Srikrishna and S. Y. Quraishi.

Kavita Devi, alternatively Kavita Bundelkhandi, is an Indian journalist and news presenter. She is the editor-in-chief and co-founder of the grassroots feminist news network Khabar Lahariya. Devi was notably the first Dalit ("untouchable") to become a member of the Editor's Guild of India.

Rohini Mohan is an Indian journalist and writer, currently working independently. In 2019, she was the recipient of the Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediaperson. Her first book, The Seasons of Trouble (2014) won the Shakti Bhatt Prize in 2015, and the Tata Literature Live! First Book Award.

Uma Sudhir is an Indian journalist, who is the executive editor of the South Indian division of the television news network NDTV. Sudhir has been the recipient of a number of awards including the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award and the Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediapersons.

Sakuntala Narasimhan Indian classical vocalist, journalist, and consumer rights activist

Sakuntala Narasimhan is an Indian journalist, consumer rights activist, and classical vocalist from the Rampur-Sahaswan gharana of Hindustani classical music. She was a disciple of Hafeez Ahmed Khan and is the only vocalist in India to have performed in the National Programme of Music organized by Doordarshan and All India Radio in both Carnatic and Hindustani styles. She was trained in Carnatic classical music by vocalists Musiri Subramania Iyer and Thanjavur Brinda. She is also the only artiste doing a “self-jugalbandi” juxtaposing the two styles.
