RNIB Connect Radio (previously Insight Radio) is a British radio station that is part of the Royal National Institute of Blind People and was Europe's first radio station for blind and partially sighted listeners. It broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week online, on 101.0 FM in the Glasgow area and on Freeview channel 730. Live shows make up around half of the station's output, with the overnight schedule being used as a showcase for the best music, features, interviews and articles from the past few days. Most of the presenters are blind or visually impaired. From 2007 until early 2016, it was known as Insight Radio.
Although the station's main studios are based in Scotland, the station broadcasts to people across the UK and around the world, with many listeners in the United States and Canada. Other studios are in Grimaldi House in London.
The radio station started as an online service called VIP on Air in November 2003, broadcasting for 2 hours a day, and later extending this to a 4-hour broadcast day. In 2007 the service was completely re-vamped, renamed and re-launched as Insight Radio.
The name VIP on Air was changed for a number of reasons. VIP in this context stands for Visually Impaired People, but could be easily misunderstood. Also, as the station was broadcasting only on the internet at the time, it wasn't actually 'on air' at all.
After broadcasting as Insight Radio for a number of years, the station became RNIB Connect Radio in 2016.
In 2008, a former member of staff from Insight Radio, Michael Hughes, became a contestant on the TV show Big Brother . He finished in second place.
In 2024 RNIB Connect Radio was named Community Station of The Year when the station won the Gold Award at the Radio Academy Arias. [1]
In 2007, The Insight Show (which later became The Daily Lunch) won the Silver Sony Award for the Internet Programme Award.
RNIB is a registered charity in the United Kingdom that offers practical and emotional support to blind and partially sighted people, their families and carers. It is regarded as a leader in the field in supporting people in the UK who have vision loss. RNIB also seeks to increase awareness of the day-to-day experiences of people who are blind or partially sighted and campaigns for UK society to become more accessible to them.
Audio description, (AD) also referred to as a video description, described video, or more precisely visual description, is a form of narration used to provide information surrounding key visual elements in a media work for the benefit of blind and visually impaired consumers. These narrations are typically placed during natural pauses in the audio, and sometimes overlap dialogue if deemed necessary. Occasionally when a film briefly has subtitled dialogue in a different language, such as Greedo's confrontation with Han Solo in the 1977 film Star Wars: A New Hope, the narrator will read out the dialogue in character.
A radio reading service or reading service for the blind is a public service of many universities, community groups and public radio stations, where a narrator reads books, newspapers and magazines aloud for the benefit of the blind and vision-impaired. It is typically broadcast on a subcarrier, with radio receivers permanently tuned to a given station in the area, or an HD Radio subchannel of the offering station. Some reading services use alternative methods for reaching their audiences, including broadcasting over SAP, streaming Internet radio, cable TV, or even terrestrial TV.
Action for Blind People was a national sight loss charity in the United Kingdom, that provided help and support to blind and partially sighted people of all ages. In 2017 the organisation merged with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) with which it had been in a partnership since 2009.

Services include readings of books, original programming, and readings of periodicals, including The Wall Street Journal and The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate. WYPL in Memphis, Tennessee, provides similar services. The station also carries Tulane Green Wave sports, including Tulane's women's basketball and baseball.

Through the use of Dolphin's screen enlargers, screen readers and braille output, users can operate word processors, spreadsheets, databases and the internet. The company's customers include Microsoft, the Inland Revenue, the BBC, the Royal Air Force, New College Worcester and Vodafone.

Founded by Sir Ernest Beachcroft Beckwith Towse in 1928, the organisation provides adapted radios and audio players on free loan to registered blind and partially sighted UK residents over the age of eight, where hardship circumstances can be demonstrated by receipt of a means-tested benefit.
Jill Daley is a Scottish broadcaster, model and journalist who lost her sight at the age of 19 to a condition called diabetic retinopathy. She presents The Daily Lunch, a weekday lunchtime show on Glasgow's Insight Radio, a radio station for visually impaired listeners. Daley worked as a blind adviser for director Eleanor Yule and producer Oscar van Heek for the film Blinded. Yule and van Heek intend to make a film about Daley's life. In November 2014, she appeared in an episode of BBC Radio Scotland's Skin Deep discussing beauty and body image issues for people with sight loss.
Tiffany Brar is an Indian community service worker who became blind as an infant due to oxygen toxicity. Brar is the founder of the Jyothirgamaya Foundation, a non-profit organization that teaches life skills to blind people of all ages. She is a trainer, a campaigner for disability awareness and an advocate for an inclusive society.
