In 2024, Karno will run as a candidate for Vice governor of Jakarta to accompany Pramono Anung who is the Cabinet Secretary in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election and register with the Jakarta General Election Commission on August 28, 2024. [10]

Accolades

At the 1974 Indonesian Film Festival, Karno won a Citra Award for Best Child Actor for his work in the film Rio Anakku; that same year, he won Best Child Actor at the Asia Pacific Film Festival for Di Mana Kau Ibu?. [2] Six years later, he won another Citra Award for his role in Taksi. [2] In 1995, he won Best Actor and Best Director for the serial Si Doel Anak Sekolahan . [2]

Personal life

Karno is married to Dewi Indriati, with whom he has a daughter and a son. [2] As of July 2011, he was valued at Rp 13 billion (US$1.5 million). [11]

Ratu Atut Chosiyah is a former governor of the province of Banten, Indonesia. She was suspended from office in 2014 because of a corruption case. She held office for several terms. Before her election as governor in 2006, she was the deputy governor under Djoko Munandar starting from 11 January 2002. Djoko was involved in a corruption case and was suspended from office in October 2005. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono appointed Ratu Atut as the acting governor to take over Djoko's administrative duties and she later became governor. She thus became the first female governor in Indonesia. In May 2014, she was formally charged by the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission for alleged corruption. In early September 2014, she was sentenced to a four-year term of imprisonment on the charges brought by the Commission against her. In September 2022, Ratu Atut was released on parole.

Besides Rano Karno, this series also stars Benyamin Sueb, Maudy Koesnaedi, Cornelia Agatha, Aminah Cendrakasih, Mandra, Suti Karno and Basuki.

The 2020 South Tangerang mayoral election was held on 9 December 2020 to elect the mayor of South Tangerang as part of the 2020 Indonesian local elections. The incumbent mayor, Airin Rachmi Diany, was term-limited and couldn't run for re-election. The sitting vice-mayor, Benyamin Davnie of Golkar, was elected in her stead, winning more than 40% of the vote.
