Raxaul Junction railway station is a main railway station in East Champaran district, Bihar. Its code is RXL. It serves Raxaul city and also as gateway to Nepal as the most important station on the Indo-Nepal border. The station consists of five platforms. [1]
Raxaul–Amlekhganj line was constructed in 1927. It was Nepal's first railway line. Narrow-gauge line of 48 km was closed in 1965 as new line was constructed to Inland Container Depot at Sirsiya near Birgunj and was opened in 2005. [2]
The station is situated on the Delhi–Gorakhpur–Raxaul–Muzaffarpur–Kolkata lines. [3] [4] Earlier, all tracks were metre gauge but most have been converted to 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) broad gauge. After the completion of the gauge conversion from Darbhanga to Raxaul via Sitamarhi, another broad-gauge route to Raxaul became available from March 2014.

The Howrah–New Jalpaiguri line is a railway line connecting Howrah with New Jalpaiguri in North Bengal in the Indian state of West Bengal. The line continues through North Bengal and western part of Assam to connect with Guwahati. The Naihati–Bandel link allows trains from another terminus Sealdah in Calcutta to use this route. The line uses a major part of the Barharwa–Azimganj–Katwa loop. Many trains use an alternative line between Howrah and New Farakka, via Bardhaman and Rampurhat. Other parts of West Bengal and Bihar are well-connected to this line. It is under the administrative jurisdiction of Eastern Railway and Northeast Frontier Railway.
The Haldibari–New Jalpaiguri line connecting Haldibari in Cooch Behar district and New Jalpaiguri in Jalpaiguri district in the Indian state of West Bengal, was since 1878 a part of the Kolkata–Siliguri broad-gauge route. With the partition of India in 1947, while the main part of the route lay in East Pakistan, later Bangladesh, the two ends of the route lying in India were detached.. However, the route continued to be operational till the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. Thereafter, the route had been closed till its reopening in 2020. The rest of the line had been in use in the respective countries.
The Barauni–Gorakhpur, Raxaul and Jainagar lines are a set of three lines connecting Barauni in the Indian state of Bihar with Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The lines run in an east–west direction between the Ganges and India-Nepal border, covering northern Bihar west of the Kosi river and eastern Uttar Pradesh. The southernmost of the lines connects via Hajipur Junction, Sonpur Junction,Chhapra and Siwan Junction. The central line connects via Muzaffarpur, Motihari and Sugauli. The northern line connects via Darbhanga, Sitamarhi and Raxaul. The lines have interconnections between them and the northern line has extensions to places near the India–Nepal border.
Alipurduar Junction is one of the four railway stations that serve Alipurduar city in Alipurduar district in north Bengal in the Indian state of West Bengal. Its station code is APDJ and it lies in New Jalpaiguri–Alipurduar–Samuktala Road line and Alipurduar–Bamanhat branch line. An adjacent railway junction is New Alipurduar.

The Muzaffarpur–Sitamarhi section is a railway line connecting Muzaffarpur to Sitamarhi in the Indian state of Bihar. The 65.8 km (40.9 mi) line passes through the plains of North Bihar.

Gawnaha railway station is a small railway station on Narkatiaganj–Bhikhna Thori branch line in West Champaran district, Bihar. Its code is GAH. It serves Gawnaha village.
The Barsoi–New Farakka section is an Indian railway line connecting Barsoi with New Farakka junction on the Howrah–New Jalpaiguri line. This 126-kilometre (78 mi) track is under the jurisdiction of Eastern Railway and Northeast Frontier Railway.
The Raxaul–Kathmandu railway line is a proposed cross-border railway between India and Nepal. The governments of India and Nepal had issued a joint statement on expanding rail linkages with India's financial support, connecting the border city of Raxaul in India to Kathmandu in Nepal. Nepal signed a memorandum of understanding with India to prepare a detailed project report for a proposed railway linking the two towns, with an estimated cost around US$3 billion.
Old Malda–Abdulpur line was built in 1930 during the British Indian rule. At present, the Bangladesh part of the railway line is operated and maintained under Bangladesh Railway and the Indian part of the railway line is managed and maintained by Indian Railways.
