Thakurganj railway station serves Thakurganj town in Kishanganj district in the Indian state of Bihar. The Mechi flowing nearby forms the boundary between Nepal and India in the area. On the other side of the border lies Prithivinagar town of Nepal.
The place is named after Rabindra Nath Tagore (Rabindra Nath Thakur in Bengali). [8]
Thakurganj Junction was part of Darjeeling Himalayan Railways, Thakurganj Junction was the connecting point of DHR and Outh Tiruhat Railway.
Work for conversion of the Aluabari–Siliguri section from metre gauge to broad gauge was taken up in 2008, train services in the section was suspended and conversion work completed early in 2011.

The 13247/48 Kamakhya–Rajendra Nagar Capital Express and 13245/46 New Jalpaiguri–Rajendra Nagar Capital Express are the Express trains belonging to East Central Railway zone that runs between Kamakhya Junction, New Jalpaiguri and Rajendra Nagar Terminal in India. It is operated with 13247/48 and 13245/46 train numbers on four days and three days respectively each week.

The Howrah–New Jalpaiguri line is a railway line connecting Howrah railway station to New Jalpaiguri Junction railway station in the Indian state of West Bengal. The line continues through North Bengal and western part of Assam to connect with Guwahati. The Naihati–Bandel link allows trains from another terminus Sealdah in Kolkata to use this route. The line uses a major part of the Barharwa–Azimganj–Katwa loop. Many trains use an alternative line between Howrah and New Farakka, via Azimganj. Other parts of West Bengal and Bihar are well-connected to this line. It is under the administrative jurisdiction of Eastern Railway and Northeast Frontier Railway.
