Sonpur railway division is one of the five railway divisions under East Central Railway zone of Indian Railways.

History

Sonpur division was established on 21 Oct. 1978 in North Eastern Railway zone. The ECR zone came into existence on 8 September 1996. Garhara yard and Dinkar Gram Simaria station were merged into this division on 1 January 2005. The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) is Nilmani and the Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) is Pankaj Kumar Sinha.[ citation needed ]

Geography

It follows the north side of the Ganges and the west side of the Gandak River.

The division routes over 495.361 km, all on BG.[ clarification needed ] This division traverses through 8 districts of Bihar: Saran, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Begusarai, Khagaria, Bhagalpur and Katihar. Its headquarter is located at Hajipur, Bihar in the state of Bihar of India.

Danapur railway division, Mughalsarai railway division, Dhanbad railway division, and Samastipur railway division are the other railway divisions under ECR Zone headquartered at Hajipur. [1] [2]

Sonpur railway division area starts from Goldinganj (GJH) in the west in Saran.

The Digha–Sonpur bridge or J. P. Setu is a rail-cum-road bridge across river Ganga, connecting Digha Ghat in Patna and Pahleja Ghat in Sonpur, Saran district in the Indian state of Bihar. It is named after Indian independence activist Jayaprakash Narayan. The rail-cum-road bridge provides easy roadway and railway link between northern and southern parts of Bihar. It is a steel truss bridge. Regular scheduled passenger rail service was inaugurated on this route on 3 February 2016. This bridge of 4,556 metres (14,948 ft) length is the second longest rail-cum-road bridge in India, after Bogibeel Bridge in Assam.

This railway division was formed on 5 November 1951 and its headquarter is located at Mughalsarai in the state of Uttar Pradesh of India. Mughalsarai Junction and Gaya junction are most busiest station in term of passenger then followed by Dehri-on-Sone, Anugrah Narayan Road and Sasaram. Mughalsarai Junction holds most stoppage of Rajdhani express in India.

Bharpura Pahlejaghat Junction, station code PHLG, is a railway station in Sonpur division of East Central Railway. Bharpura Pahlejaghat Junction is located in Sonpur city in Saran district in the Indian state of Bihar. It is located on the north end of Digha–Sonpur rail–road bridge, while Patliputra is on the south end of the bridge. Pahleja Station is 3.81 km from Sonpur and 11.46 km from Patliputra. It is connected to Sonpur on its east side and Parmanandpur station on its west side. In June 2017, a 20 kW roof top hybrid solar plant with 20% storage facility installed and commissioned at Pahaleja Ghat railway station.
