Reetta Sofi Kaarina Hurske (born 15 May 1995) [2] is a Finnish athlete specialising in the sprint hurdles. She won the gold medal in the 60 metres hurdles at the 2023 European Indoor Championships, winning Finland its first ever medal in this event, after finishing fourth at the 2019 edition. [3] Hurske placed second in the 100 metres hurdles at the 2019 Universiade.

Contents

She represented her country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as well as the 2019 and 2022 World Athletics Championships. [4] She is the Finnish indoor record holder for the 60 m hurdles, and won two individual national titles.

Hurske improved the Finnish record in the 60 m hurdles five times in 2023 (7.90, 7.88, 7.86, 7.81 and 7.79 seconds). [5]

Personal life

Hurske is in a relationship with Finnish basketball player Topias Palmi. [6] [7]

She won the gold medal in the 60 m hurdles at the 2022 World Indoor Championships, a silver medal at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships where she lowered the current French national record to 7.73 seconds, and the gold medal at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, where she established a new personal best, national record and championship record at 12.31 seconds. At the 2024 Summer Olympics, Samba-Mayela won a silver medal in the 100 m hurdles event.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships</span> International athletics championship event

The 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships was held from 2 to 5 March 2023 at the Ataköy Arena in Istanbul, Turkey, the first time the event took place in this country although the venue did stage the 2012 World Indoor Championships for which this 7000-seater was specifically built. The four-day competition was held during the centenary year of the Republic of Turkey, and featured 13 men's and 13 women's athletics events over three morning and four afternoon sessions.

The 2023 Villa de Madrid Indoor Meeting was the 8th edition of the annual indoor athletics meeting in Madrid, Spain. Held on 22 February, it was the sixth and penultimate leg of the 2023 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold series – the highest-level international indoor track and field athletics circuit.

Heta Maarit Tuuri is a Finnish high jumper. She is a two-time Finnish Athletics Championships winner as well as the winner of the 2023 Finnish Indoor Athletics Championships, and she has represented Finland at two World Athletics Championships editions.

Lotta Harala is a Finnish hurdler. In 2017, she became Finnish national champion in the 100m hurdles.
