The Revenge Tour was a concert tour by Kiss in support of the band's studio album Revenge .

Background

It was the first tour with drummer Eric Singer, [1] replacing Eric Carr who died of cancer on November 24, 1991. [2] [3] Singer had previously performed with Paul Stanley's solo tour and was seen as a 'natural choice' according to Gene Simmons. [4]

Kiss began the tour with a leg of club shows in North America. [5] During the European leg of the tour in the United Kingdom, the stage set from the Hot in the Shade Tour was used. [6] During the show at Cardiff National Ice Rink on May 20, 1992, a pyro cue for "Heaven's on Fire" caused £30,000 worth of damage to the ceiling. [7]

For the North American arena tour, the stage featured a giant 41-foot high replica of the Statue of Liberty [4] in front of a large Kiss logo wall. [8] Halfway through the show during "War Machine", the statue's face crumbled to reveal its skull. [9] Afterward, its right arm and torch crumbled down before its skeleton hand gave the finger, which some audiences took personally. [6] The shows would also include strippers during the song "Take It Off". [6] The stage was hauled by six to ten semi haulers [10] while the replica of the Statue of Liberty had to fit into three trucks. [11]

Due to poor ticket sales, the tour had to be shortened.[ citation needed ] There was a show set to take place in Spokane on December 13, [12] but had been canceled due to weather affecting the band's travel between shows. [13] The shows in Cleveland, Detroit and Indianapolis were recorded by Eddie Kramer for the Alive III live album. [6] [4]

In the tour program for the band's final tour, Simmons reflected on the tour:

"Unholy" was the first single from Revenge. I got the idea for "Unholy" from a song that Adam Mitchell wrote that Doro Pesch recorded called "Unholy Love". I just loved the word "unholy". Vinnie Vincent and I wrote the lyric together. [14]

Kiss was an American rock band formed in New York City in 1973 by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. Known for their face paint and stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid-1970s with shock rock-style live performances. The band went through several lineup changes, with Stanley and Simmons remaining the only consistent members. The final lineup consisted of them, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer.

Vincent John Cusano, better known by his stage name Vinnie Vincent, is an American guitarist. He is a former member of the rock band Kiss from 1982 until mid-1984 during the band's transition out of their 1973–1983 makeup period. Vincent was the last member to wear a unique makeup/costume configuration, as the character of The Ankh Warrior, until he and the band were first shown without the makeup during an interview on MTV in September 1983. He founded his own band, Vinnie Vincent Invasion, which had minor hits in the hair metal genre.

Paul Charles Caravello, better known as Eric Carr, was an American musician. He was the drummer for the rock band Kiss from 1980 until his death in 1991. Caravello was selected as the new Kiss drummer after Peter Criss departed. He created the stage name "Eric Carr" and designed his on-stage Fox persona. He remained a member of Kiss until his death from heart cancer in 1991.

In his career, Singer has appeared on over 75 albums and 11 EPs.

Revenge is the sixteenth studio album by American rock band Kiss, released on May 19, 1992. It is the band's first album to feature drummer Eric Singer, following the death of former drummer Eric Carr in November 1991 and is the group's last album to feature musical contributions from the latter. Marking a stylistic departure from the pop-influenced glam metal which characterized much of the band's 1980s output for a heavier sound, the album reached the Top 20 in several countries, though it failed to reestablish the group back in the mainstream and its sales were equal-to or less than its predecessors, ultimately only being certified gold by the RIAA on July 20, 1992.

Hot in the Shade is the fifteenth studio album by American rock band Kiss, released in 1989. It is the first Kiss studio album since 1981's Music From "The Elder" to feature lead vocals from someone other than Paul Stanley or Gene Simmons, with drummer Eric Carr singing lead on "Little Caesar". It is also the final Kiss album in its entirety to feature Carr before his death in November 1991 during production of the band’s next album Revenge. Unlike its predecessor album, 1987's Crazy Nights, Hot in the Shade does not heavily feature keyboards.

Trixter is an American glam metal band formed in 1983 in Paramus, New Jersey. The band gained popularity in the early 1990s with hits like "Give It To Me Good" that peaked at sixty-five on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990 and "One In A Million". Despite lineup changes and a hiatus in the late '90s, Trixter has maintained a presence in the rock scene through tours and occasional album releases.

Featured on their 1992 album, Revenge, the song is one of the three Vincent co-writes to appear on the album despite the fact that he had been fired from the band 8 years earlier. The release of "Unholy" signaled the return to a heavier sound for Kiss. The song was played live during the Revenge Tour and was included on the 1993 live album Alive III, but did not return to the live Kiss set list until 2004's Rock the Nation Tour.

The song was released as a single in 1992, with the album's instrumental, "Carr Jam 1981", as its B-side. He was diagnosed with terminal heart cancer following the supporting tour.

The tour began on January 31, 2019, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada and concluded on December 2, 2023 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, United States. This was the final concert tour to feature the final band lineup with founding members Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, as well as Tommy Thayer on lead guitar and Eric Singer on drums.
