He was sworn in on April 3,2006,becoming the most senior nuclear technology official in the American government. In addition,he is the leader of the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership,a strategy aimed at accelerating the demonstration of a more proliferation resistant closed fuel cycle and reducing the possibility that nuclear energy could be used for non-peaceful purposes. In his capacity as Assistant Secretary,he has previously served as Acting Under Secretary of Energy for Energy and Environment.
Larry C. Olsen was a pioneer in the commercialization of betavoltaic technology. While working for the McDonnell Douglas Corporation in the 1970s,Olsen lead the development of the first commercially available betavoltaic nuclear battery. Several hundred of these batteries were fabricated and a large number were used to power implanted heart pacemakers. Olsen has published more than 80 articles in the fields of betavoltaics,photovoltaics,thermoelectric materials,and solid state physics. He has also earned several awards for his research,including the R&D 100 Award,presented each year by R&D Magazine to identify the 100 most significant,newly introduced research and development advances in multiple disciplines.

He managed multidisciplinary groups of engineers and scientists working in reactor core design,and led work that promoted the use of centrifuge technology in uranium enrichment.
Eileen Gail de Planque was an American nuclear physicist. An expert on environmental radiation measurements,she was the first woman and first health physicist to become a Commissioner at the US government's Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Her technical areas of expertise included environmental radiation,nuclear facilities monitoring,personnel dosimetry,radiation shielding,radiation transport,and solid state dosimetry.
Inés Ramona Triay is the executive director of the Applied Research Center (ARC) and the associate dean for research innovation and technology at the College of Engineering at Florida International University (FIU). Triay was appointed by President Obama as the 7th DOE Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management and sworn into office in May 2009. She played leading role at the Office of Environment Management (EM),which is charged with the safe and complete cleanup of the environmental legacy brought about from five decades of nuclear weapons development and government-sponsored nuclear energy research.
