Roeseliana [1] is a genus of bush cricket or katydid in the subfamily Tettigoniinae. [2] [3] Species in this genus were placed at various times in the genera Metrioptera and Bicolorana , until Roeseliana was restored in 2011, [4] with these and other similar genera placed in genus group Metrioptera.
These species belong to the genus Roeseliana: [3]
The family Gryllidae contains the subfamilies and genera which entomologists now term true crickets. Having long, whip-like antennae, they belong to the Orthopteran suborder Ensifera, which has been greatly reduced in the last 100 years : taxa such as the spider-crickets and allies, sword-tail crickets, wood or ground crickets and scaly crickets have been elevated to family level. The type genus is Gryllus and the first use of the family name "Gryllidae" was by Walker.
The Acrididae, or short-horned grasshoppers, are the predominant family of grasshoppers, comprising some 10,000 of the 11,000 species of the entire suborder Caelifera. The Acrididae are best known because all locusts are of the Acrididae. The subfamily Oedipodinae is sometimes classified as a distinct family Oedipodidae in the superfamily Acridoidea. Acrididae grasshoppers are characterized by relatively short and stout antennae, and tympana on the side of the first abdominal segment.
The Tettigoniinae are a subfamily of bush crickets or katydids, which contains hundreds of species in about twelve tribes.
Metrioptera is a genus of insects in the tribe Platycleidini and subfamily Tettigoniinae, include the bog and meadow bush crickets. They are found in Eurasia.
The Phaneropterinae, the sickle-bearing bush crickets or leaf katydids, are a subfamily of insects within the family Tettigoniidae. Nearly 2,060 species in 85 genera throughout the world are known. They are also known as false katydids or round-headed katydids.
Phalangopsinae, occasionally known as spider crickets, are a subfamily of crickets in the family Phalangopsidae. Members of Phalangopsinae are found worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions. Most species in the subfamily are nocturnal and can be found in rocky areas, near fallen wood, and the understory of forests. Some species are gregarious, gathering in large numbers.
Platycleis is a genus of bush crickets described by Fieber in 1853, belonging to the subfamily Tettigoniinae. The species of this genus are present in Europe, North Africa and temperate Asia.
Mecopodinae are a subfamily of bush crickets found in western South America, sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia. In Asia, the distribution includes India, Indochina, Japan, the Philippines, and Malesia to Papua New Guinea and Australasia, including many Pacific islands.
The Copiphorini are a tribe of bush crickets or katydids in the family Tettigoniidae. Previously considered a subfamily, they are now placed in the subfamily Conocephalinae. Like some other members of Conocephalinae, they are known as coneheads, grasshopper-like insects with an extended, cone-shaped projection on their heads that juts forward in front of the base of the antennae.
The Cyrtacanthacridinae are a subfamily of Orthoptera: Caelifera in the family Acrididae. They are sometimes referred-to as bird locusts, criquets voyageurs in French-speaking Africa, and Knarrschrecken in German.
Romaleinae is a subfamily of lubber grasshoppers in the family Romaleidae, found in North and South America. More than 60 genera and 260 described species are placed in the Romaleinae.
Atlanticus is a genus of "eastern shieldback" bush crickets or katydids in the tribe Drymadusini. It has a discontinuous recorded distribution in North America and temperate eastern Asia.
Podoscirtinae is a subfamily of crickets in the family Gryllidae.
Bicolorana is a genus of bush crickets in the subfamily Tettigoniinae and tribe Platycleidini. Species can be found in many parts of mainland Europe, through central Asia to the Korean peninsula.
Cladonotinae is a subfamily of groundhoppers containing more than 70 genera and 260 described species. These insects are found in tropical areas world-wide.
The Phlaeobini are a tribe of grasshoppers in the subfamily Acridinae. The recorded distribution of genera includes: Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
Pterophylla is a genus of true katydids in the family Tettigoniidae. There are about five described species in Pterophylla.
Montana is a genus of bush crickets in the tribe Platycleidini, erected by F.E. Zeuner in 1941. The type species, M. montana has been called the "Steppe Bush-Cricket". Some authorities previously placed this as a subgenus of Platycleis, but it is now considered a separate genus, as part of the genus group Platycleis. Species can be found in the northern Palaearctic realm from mainland western Europe through to Siberia.
Parnassiana is a genus of bush crickets in the tribe Platycleidini and genus group Platycleis, erected by F. E. Zeuner in 1941. Species have been called "Greek bush-crickets" and members of this genus have been recorded mostly from that country.
Incertana is a genus of bush crickets in the tribe Platycleidini, erected by erected by F. E. Zeuner in 1941. Species have been recorded from: North Africa, southern Europe, the Middle East and the Himalayas. Placed in genus group Platycleis, literature on the type species and others often refers to that genus.
