Romy Madley Croft (born 18 August 1989) [1] who releases solo music as Romy, is an English musician. [2] [3] She is the guitarist and co-vocalist of the xx, and she released a solo album, Mid Air , in 2023, which peaked at No. 15 on the UK Albums Chart. She was nominated for the Brit Award for British Dance Act at the 2024 Brit Awards. [4]
The only child of a teacher mother and a librarian father, Romy grew up in Putney. [5] Her mother died when she was 11. [5] Her father died nine years later. [5]
Her album Mid Air (2023) makes Madley Croft the last member of The xx to release solo material, following Jamie xx's "In Colour" (2015) and Oliver Sim's "Hideous Bastard" (2022). [6]
Jamie xx said of her, "She makes very catchy melodies. That's the thing that always gets me." [6]
As well as being a member of the xx, Romy has written for Dua Lipa and Kelela, and worked with Fred Gibson, also known as Fred Again. [7]
Her wife is photographer and filmmaker Vic Lentaigne. [6] They first met in 2008. [6]
Romy is a self-described introvert. [6]
