Ron Meadows (born 7 February 1964) [1] is a British Formula One mechanic and team manager. He is currently the sporting director at the Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport Formula One team. [2]
Meadows started his career in motorsport as a mechanic in his early teens and worked his way through the ranks to running his own Formula 3000 squad. After several years as a team boss, Meadows moved to the US to work for Walker Racing in the Indy Car series. [3] Meadows later joined Adrian Reynard's fledging British American Racing team as their factory manager. [4] After the Brackley-based team struggled during their maiden season, Meadows was promoted to team manager and remained with them as they became Honda Racing, and then took on the sporting director role in 2008. In 2009, he helped Brawn GP take their one and only World Championship[ citation needed ], and remained in the same sporting director position as the champions were bought out by Mercedes winning 8 constructors and 7 drivers titles with the team. In his current role Meadows is responsible for managing garage operations and is the lead figure on the Mercedes pit wall. [5] He also represents the team in discussions with the FIA and the Sporting Working Group and directly communicates with race control during the race weekend. [6]
Silver Arrows is a nickname typically given to silver racing cars with a significant connection to a German car manufacturer. Although the term was coined in 1932, it came into popular usage regarding Germany's dominant Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union Grand Prix motor racing cars between 1934 and 1939. The name was later applied to the Mercedes-Benz Formula One and sports cars in 1954 and 1955, then to the Sauber Group C prototype racing sports cars that raced at Le Mans in the late 1980s as well as the McLaren-Mercedes Formula One cars of the late 1990s and 2000s, and is currently applied to the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 cars from 2010 to present.
Gary James Paffett is a British racing driver. Having become a household name in the DTM, following fifteen years in the series and two championship wins, Paffett moved onto Formula E for the 2018/19 championship, after it was announced in 2017 that Mercedes would no longer be taking part in DTM. Paffett was also a test driver for the Williams Formula One team, having previously worked in a similar role at McLaren for a number of years, during the team's successful title winning years. Paffett progressed through the ranks of karting and junior formulae in the United Kingdom, winning the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award in 1999. He now lives in Ousden, Suffolk, England.
James Patrick Vowles is a British motorsport engineer and Team Principal of Williams Racing. Before joining Williams, he was the motorsport strategy director at Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. He was also responsible for the Brawn GP race strategy, which was critical to the team's championship-winning 2009 season. He has worked in Formula One for over 20 years, including under the leadership of team principals David Richards, Ross Brawn, and Toto Wolff, and has played a key role in nine Constructors' Championships, eight Drivers' Championships and over 100 Grands Prix wins.
Patrick Allen Lowe FREng, known as Paddy Lowe, is the founder and CEO of the fossil-free synthetic fuel company Zero. A former motor racing engineer and computer scientist, he spent 32 years working in Formula One, serving as Chief Technical Officer at Williams Racing, Executive Director (Technical) at Mercedes Formula One team and Technical Director at McLaren. He was involved with cars that won 12 World Championships and secured 158 race wins. He left Formula One in 2019 and co-founded Zero in 2020.
