Ruth is a census-designated place (CDP) in Trinity County, California. [2] Ruth is located in the southern portion of the county. The community - and adjacent Ruth Lake - was named after Ruth McKnight, daughter of settlers. The ZIP code is 95526. [3] The community is inside area code 707. It is located near the headwaters of the Mad River (California) and adjacent to the Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness. Ruth sits at an elevation of 2,933 feet (894 m). [2] Its population is 254 as of the 2020 census, up from 195 from the 2010 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP covers an area of 40.5 square miles (104.9 km2), 38.8 square miles (100.6 km2) of it is land and 1.7 square miles (4.3 km2) of it (4.14%) is water.
The 2010 United States Census [4] reported that Ruth had a population of 195. The population density was 4.8 people per square mile (1.9/km2). The racial makeup of Ruth was 170 (87.2%) White, 0 (0.0%) African American, 9 (4.6%) Native American, 1 (0.5%) Asian, 0 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 1 (0.5%) from other races, and 14 (7.2%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2 persons (1.0%).
