SM Seaside City Cebu (stylized as SM Seaside City), also known locally as Seaside, is a large shopping mall owned and developed by SM Prime Holdings in South Road Properties, Cebu City, Philippines. The mall opened on November 27, 2015, exactly 22 years after SM City Cebu, also owned by SM Prime, which opened in 1993.
As of 2022 [update] , it is the largest mall in Cebu, the fourth largest shopping mall in the Philippines and the fourteenth in the world, with a gross floor area (GFA) of approximately 470,486 square meters. [1] SM Seaside is SM Prime Holdings' third mall in Metro Cebu and its 56th mall in the Philippines. The mall is designed by Arquitectonica, the same company which designed other SM Supermalls, such as SM City North EDSA, SM Mall of Asia, and SM Megamall.
On April 12, 2011, SM Prime Holdings held a ground-breaking ceremony at the mall's location. [2]
SM Prime Holdings President Hans Sy said that the company has made adjustments to its destination mall project at SRP, in terms of budget allocation to ₱8.5 billion, from the original budget of ₱6 billion. The whole SM Seaside Complex costs ₱30 billion. [3]
On November 27, 2015, SM Seaside City opened and many shoppers flocked the mall, causing major traffic in the South Road Properties area. And during that night, a fireworks display was held to celebrate the opening of the large mall. [4]
SM Seaside City is a circular-shaped retail mall with multiple anchors, including a two-story SM Store (formerly The SM Store), SM Supermarket, a Centerstage theater, a Super Screen Cinema (formerly Large Screen format cinema), two Director's Club cinemas, and 4 regular cinemas, an 18-lane SM Bowling and Amusement Center, and an Olympic-size ice skating rink across the food court. The Super Screen Cinema features a super-sized screen almost 30% larger than the regular cinema screen size. This format uses the Christie 6P laser projection system and features a super-sized screen almost 30% larger than the regular cinema screen size. The Christie 6P laser produces the brightest images with 80% illumination and offers the best 3D platform that accurately reproduces the colors of the actual movie set, developing the most immersive cinema experience. The SM Large Screen Cinema also proudly uses the Dolby Atmos Sound System and the top-of-the-line Christie Vive Speakers, its audience fully immersed in surround-sound technology. It will house 351 guests in stadium-like seats. [6] The technology in this cinema is similar to Dolby Cinema, which also uses Christie projectors.
The proposed SMX Convention Center Cebu will stand on South Coast City.
This 147-meter tall tower is located on the center of the mall. [7] There are plans for restaurants, coffee shops and a viewing deck at the top of the tower which will provide people with a 360-degree view of Cebu City and the mall. The tower is still currently unoccupied. The tower is supported by columns of 1500mm x 1500mm dimensions of 21 MPA concrete ultimate compression strength from the foundation up to the third level. The SM Seaside City Arena is a proposed 16,000-seating capacity indoor arena intended to be built across the shopping mall complex. It is planned to house international concerts and events, and, upon completion, will be the biggest indoor arena in Cebu. [9]
It is planned to become a venue for the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) and the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and was one of the planned venues for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, had the Philippines won its bid to host the tournament. [10]
In January 2017, SM Prime Holdings reportedly canceled its plans to build the arena. [11] [12] However, plans for the arena resumed in late 2019, with the arena, instead of being within the SM Seaside complex, now placed in the South Coast City, an adjacent mixed-use development co-owned by SM Prime with Ayala Land. Ayala Center Cebu is a large shopping mall owned by Ayala Malls at the Cebu Business Park in Cebu City, Philippines. It is the first Ayala mall located outside of Metro Manila. It opened in November 1994, one year after their rival mall, SM City Cebu opened. For more than 20 years, it was the only Ayala Mall to bear the word Ayala in its name until Ayala Malls Serin opened in March 2015.
SM City Fairview is a large shopping mall in the Philippines owned and operated by SM Prime Holdings. It is located along Quirino Highway and Regalado Highway, Quezon City, Metro Manila. It is the third SM Supermall in Quezon City, after SM City North EDSA and SM City Sta. Mesa. It has a land area of 202,000 square meters, a total gross floor area of 312,749 square meters (3,366,400 sq ft), making it the fifth largest SM Supermall within the country after SM City North EDSA, SM Megamall, SM Seaside City Cebu, and SM Mall of Asia as well as the sixth largest shopping mall in the Philippines, in terms of total floor area. SM Aura, formerly SM Aura Premier, is a large upscale shopping mall located along McKinley Parkway corner 26th Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig Metro Manila, Philippines, owned by SM Prime Holdings, the country's largest mall developer. It is the 13th SM Supermall in Metro Manila and 47th SM Prime mall in the Philippines. It was the 2nd SM Supermall to be called "Premier" after SM Lanang. Harrison Plaza (HP) was a shopping mall situated along Harrison Avenue corner Pablo Ocampo Street in the district of Malate in Manila, Philippines. Opened in 1976 and closed in 2019, it was the first modern and major shopping mall located in the area. The shopping mall building has been demolished to give way for a redevelopment of the site into residential building complex with a shopping center by SM Prime Holdings.
SM Lanang, formerly SM Lanang Premier, is an indoor four-story shopping mall in Lanang, Davao City, Philippines along Jose P. Laurel Avenue and within S.P Dakudao loop. It was the first SM Supermall to be called "Premier"(now discontinued). The mall is owned by Henry Sy, Sr. and managed by SM Prime Holdings. Construction of the mall started in 2011 and opened to the public on September 28, 2012, on the site of the former Lanang Golf and Country Club.
SM Estates, are integrated mixed-used developments of SM Prime Holdings. The South Road Properties (SRP), also known as the South Reclamation Project, is a 300 ha reclamation area in Cebu City, Philippines. The area, which is reclaimed from Mactan Channel, is located off the coast of the southern district of Cebu City, near Barangays Mambaling, Inayawan, and Pasil. It spans from the shore of mainland Cebu to Kawit Point. An island-type reclaimed area, it is connected with mainland Cebu by the Cebu South Coastal Road and the Mambaling Access Road. Through the Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway, the SRP is also connected by land to Cordova and the island of Mactan.
SM CDO Downtown is a shopping mall located along Claro M. Recto Avenue corner Osmeña Street, Cagayan de Oro, in the city's central business district. Ayala Malls Central Bloc is a large shopping mall in Cebu IT Park developed by Cebu Holdings Incorporated, becoming the second Ayala Mall in Cebu City, Philippines in 25 years since the opening of Ayala Center Cebu and its fifth regional mall in Visayas and Mindanao. It has a gross leasable area (GLA) of 45,000 square meters. The mall opened on December 6, 2019.
SM Seaside Arena is a multipurpose indoor arena that as of 2023 is under construction in South Road Properties, Cebu City, Philippines. The arena, located adjacent to the SM Seaside complex, is estimated to have a 16,000-seating capacity and, once completed, will be the largest indoor arena in Cebu.
