Samayapuram Mariamman also known as Samayapurathal, is the Hindu goddess of timing and help. She is also an aspect of the Hindu goddess Parvati and another form of the goddess Mariamman and Karumariamman. She is primarily worshipped in the villages of South India such as Samayapuram which is believed to be her abode. [2] [3]

Iconography

Samayapuram Mariamman is usually pictured as a young woman with an round circle shaped face (sometimes red in colour), wearing a red saree with long jewellery and a big lemon garland on her lap. And is portrayed having secen hands with bright red flames of fire being represented behind the goddess.

Samayapuram Mariamman is generally portrayed in a sitting position, with all her seven hands holding certain objects and weapons that are symbolic to her.

She is also seen with her right foot on top of the heads of three asura's indicating nothing can over come her power. [4]

The flower festival or flower sprinkling festival is an important festival celebrated in the Samayapuram Mariamman temple near Tiruchirappalli, India. This festival is usually held in the Tamil month of Masi. During this festival, devotees throng the temple to sprinkle flowers on the idol of the Hindu goddess Mariamman. During this period, it is believed, that the goddess fasts for the welfare of her devotees for a period of 28 days. As a result, the ritual consecration of food at the temple does not take place.

Aathi Parasakthi is a 1971 Indian Tamil-language Hindu mythological film directed by K. S. Gopalakrishnan and produced by Chitra Productions. It stars S. Varalakshmi in the title role, Gemini Ganesan and Jayalalithaa. Sridevi acted as a child artist in the movie, while Padmini came in for a cameo.
