Chelmsford is an English city, the main area of the City of Chelmsford district and the county town of Essex, in the East of England. It is located in the London commuter belt, approximately 30 miles (48 km) north-east of the notional centre of London at Charing Cross and approximately 22 miles (35 km) from Colchester. The urban area of the city has a population of approximately 112,000, whilst the district has a population of 168,310.

Sandon has a church called All Saints Church. Sandon has 47 listed buildings, including one of Britain's estimated 200 medieval barns, the construction of which has been dendrochronologically dated to 1266–68.
