Screentime is an Australian television production company, which develops and produces scripted and unscripted television programs in Australia and New Zealand. The company has produced numerous popular series including Popstars , the Underbelly format, RBT and Janet King .

In 2012, French company Banijay Entertainment acquired a majority stake in Screentime. [1]

History

The company was formed by Bob Campbell and Des Monaghan with Capital Investment Group in 1996. [2] [3] Screentime's first production was New Zealand talk show 5.30 with Jude on TV One which ran for three seasons. [4] [5]

In 1999, Screentime bought the format rights to talent competition Popstars from its New Zealand creator, and went on to sell and co-produce adaptations of the format internationally. [6] In 2002, it was estimated that Screentime earned 20 percent of revenue generated from Popstars: The Rivals . [7]

In 2012, Banijay Group purchased a controlling stake in Screentime, giving Screentime the rights to adapt Banijay formats in Australia. [2] Des Monaghan stood down from his executive position at Screentime in 2014. [8]

In 2015, Screentime sold its 49% stake in Irish production company Shinawil. [9]

In 2019, Screentime partnered with the Screen Makers Conference in Adelaide. [10] [11]

Australian Survivor is an Australian adventure reality game show based on the international Survivor format. Following the premise of other versions of the Survivor format, the show features a group of contestants, referred to as "castaways" as they are marooned in an isolated location. The castaways must provide food, water, fire, and shelter for themselves. The contestants compete in various challenges for rewards and immunity from elimination. The contestants are progressively eliminated from the game as they are voted off the island by their fellow castaways. Popstars is an international reality television franchise aimed to find new singing talent. Serving as a precursor to the Idol franchise, Popstars first began in New Zealand in 1999 when producer Jonathan Dowling formed the girl group TrueBliss. Despite all shows in the Popstars franchise having been off air in recent years, it remains one of the most successful TV show formats of all time with the format being sold to more than 50 countries, and producing groups such as Girls Aloud that had success on the UK charts for the next ten years after winning. The show was the inspiration for Simon Fuller's Idols franchise.

Six were an Irish pop group who formed on the Irish version of the television programme Popstars in 2002. The programme aired on RTÉ One on Sunday nights in the autumn and winter of 2001–2002. The band were signed to Simon Cowell under BMG Records UK and managed by Louis Walsh who also appeared as a judge on the show. Their first single, "There's a Whole Lot of Loving Going On", is currently the fastest and third-biggest selling single in Irish history.

<i>My Kitchen Rules</i> 2010 Australian TV series or program

My Kitchen Rules is an Australian competitive cooking game show broadcast on the Seven Network since 2010. The show is currently hosted and judged by chefs Manu Feildel and Colin Fasnidge, with Feildel being the only judge who has appeared in every season of the show. Fellow chef Pete Evans co-hosted until his departure after season 11, following controversy about his personal views and social media posts. Other celebrity chefs and food critics frequently appear as guest judges or mentors in the kitchen. The series was originally produced by the team who created the Seven reality show My Restaurant Rules, and was put into production based on the success of Network 10's MasterChef Australia.

MasterChef is a competitive cooking show television format created by Franc Roddam, which originated with the UK version in July 1990. The show aims to discover the culinary talent of chefs of varying skill levels, through a series of cooking challenges, watched over by various acclaimed food critics and chefs. Dave Ross commissioned the show for the BBC and gave it the name; he had already produced Masterteam, a quiz with Angela Rippon, and worked on Mastermind, and so the name was a continuation of that. Janet King is an Australian television drama program which began airing on ABC1 from 27 February 2014. It was created as a spin-off from the 2011 legal drama Crownies. It follows the story of Senior Crown Prosecutor Janet King, tracking her journey in Series 1 in the Department of Public Prosecutions to a Royal Commission into Serious Firearm Crime in Series 2 to the National Crime Commission in Series 3.

Celebrity Splash! is a reality television franchise created by Dutch company Eyeworks, started from their Dutch reality show Sterren Springen Op Zaterdag which premièred in 2012. The franchise involves celebrities diving into the pool.

Popstars is a New Zealand reality documentary television show. The first edition aired on TVNZ in 1999 and showed the establishment of a five-piece girl group, TrueBliss. The series was the origin of the Popstars reality TV series format, which went on to be sold to over 50 countries. A reboot of Popstars screened in 2021.
