The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is an amateur sports organization based in the United States. A multi-sport organization, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. It has more than 900,000 members nationwide, including more than 100,000 volunteers. The philosophy of the AAU is "Sports for All, Forever."

James Henry Nation is a field hockey player from New Zealand who earned his first cap for the national team, nicknamed The Black Sticks, in 2001 against Malaysia. The midfielder provides support at centre and left half and is also an attacking penalty corner option. He made his test debut in 2001, but did not make the team to the Commonwealth Games a year later. he had over 105 caps for the team and was a very experienced player in the squad at the time.

He was the head coach of the Red Lions when they won the world title in 2018, the European Championship in 2019, and the Olympic title in Tokyo 2020. In 2019 he was voted best coach of the year in Belgium.
