Sharon Owens is an American politician who is the 55th Mayor of Syracuse,New York. She is the first Black mayor of Syracuse.[3] Owens assumed on January 1,2026.[4] She previously served as Syracuse's Deputy Mayor under Ben Walsh. Incumbent mayor Ben Walsh was term limited and was not able to run for re-election to a third term in office,and endorsed Owens in the 2025 election.[5] A Democratic primary was held on June 24.[6] Owens won the nomination,receiving 62% of the vote. Syracuse Common Councilor Pat Hogan received 23%,and Syracuse Common Councilor Chol Majok received 15%. She won the 2025 Syracuse Mayoral Election by 74% of the vote,[7] defeating Republican Thomas Babilon,Independent Alfonso Davis,and Independent Tim Rudd.
