Sharon Owens is an American politician who is the 55th Mayor-elect of Syracuse,New York. She will be the first Black mayor of Syracuse. [2] Owens will assume office on January 1,2026. She previously served as Syracuse's Deputy Mayor under Ben Walsh. Incumbent mayor Ben Walsh is term limited and cannot run for re-election to a third term in office,endorsed Owens. [3] A Democratic primary was held on June 24. [4] Owens won the nomination,receiving 62% of the vote. Syracuse Common Councilor Pat Hogan received 23%,and Syracuse Common Councilor Chol Majok received 15%. She won the 2025 Syracuse Mayoral Election by 74% of the vote [5] ,defeating Republican Thomas Babilon,Independent Alfonso Davis,and Independent Tim Rudd.
