Chester was a non-metropolitan local government district of Cheshire, England from 1974 to 2009. It had the status of a city and a borough.

According to the 2011 Census it had a population of 936. The main village in the parish – formerly known as Ashton – was renamed Ashton Hayes following a referendum, to avoid confusion with other places of the same name. The civil parish was abolished in 2015 to form Ashton Hayes and Horton-cum-Peel, part of it also went to Mouldsworth.
Bickley is a former civil parish, now in the parish of No Man's Heath and District, in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. According to the 2001 Census it had a population of 498, reducing slightly to 481 at the 2011 census. The parish included the villages of Bickley Town and Bickley Moss. The civil parish was abolished in 2015 to form No Man's Heath and District.
Malpas is a settlement in South West Cheshire. In medieval times it received a charter allowing it to hold a market, so some residents argue that it is an ancient market town but many residents today regard it as a village. St Edith's Church, Shocklach, stands at the end of an isolated lane running toward the River Dee about 1 mile (2 km) to the north of the village of Shocklach, Cheshire, England. It is a small Norman church, and is one of the oldest ecclesiastical buildings in Cheshire. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building and its simple Norman work is considered to be unique in Cheshire. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Chester and the deanery of Malpas. Its benefice is combined with that of St Mary, Tilston.

Horton-cum-Peel is a former civil parish, now in the parish of Ashton Hayes and Horton-cum-Peel, in the Borough of Cheshire West and Chester and ceremonial county of Cheshire in England. In 2001 it had a population of 15. The parish included Peel Hall though due to an error in Chester City Council's electoral register in 1993, three houses had been able to vote in parish council elections in Ashton Hayes opposed to Horton-cum-Peel where they were located. This error was later corrected in 2006. The civil parish was abolished in 2015 to form Ashton Hayes and Horton-cum-Peel.

It contains three buildings that are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as designated listed buildings. Of these, one is listed at Grade I, and the other two at Grade II. The parish contains part of the village of Shocklach, and is otherwise rural. The listed buildings consist of a Norman church, a Medieval cross in the churchyard, and a farmhouse that was originally timber-framed.

It contains three buildings that are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as designated listed buildings, all of which are listed at Grade II. This grade is the lowest of the three gradings given to listed buildings and is applied to "buildings of national importance and special interest". Apart from the village of Shocklach, the parish is entirely rural. The listed buildings consist of two farmhouses and a group of farm buildings.

It was created in 2015, under the terms of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007, from the civil parish of Tushingham cum Grindley with parts of the historic civil parishes of Macefen and Bradley.
