Sidhartha Vijay Mallya (born May 7, 1987) [1] [2] is an Indian and American actor and model. [3] [4] [5] He registered with the Screen Actors Guild as Sid Mallya, saying he chose the stage name to try to avoid being typecast in stereotypical roles. [3] He appeared in a sex comedy film entitled Brahman Naman . [6] He has also hosted an online video show, appeared as a guest judge and host on the Kingfisher Calendar Girl selection show, and worked as a model.

Mallya is the son of the Indian fugitive former businessman Vijay Mallya, [7] the former chairman of UB Group (an Indian conglomerate that is primarily in the alcoholic beverages business), [8] [9] and the grandson of Vittal Mallya, who was the company's previous chairman.

He also worked as director of the IPL cricket team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which was owned by his father at the time, and as a marketing manager for Guinness (a product of Diageo, a large drinks company closely tied to his father's business). In 2010 he also became one of the directors of the football club Mohun Bagan when his father stepped down as director. [10] [11]

Early life and education

Siddharth Mallya was born in Los Angeles, California, to Indian businessman Vijay Mallya and former airline hostess Samira Mallya (née Tyabjee). [12] His father is of a Konkani background. Shortly after Siddharth's birth, the family moved to England, where he was primarily raised. The family also lived part of the time in Dubai (in the United Arab Emirates). [7] At the age of 15, he started boarding school at Papplewick School in Ascot and then went to Wellington College, Berkshire, where he passed his GCSEs and A Levels. He then attended Queen Mary University of London, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in business management. [7] While at the university, he also played on its field hockey team. [13]

In 2016, he was awarded a diploma supplement for a Master of Arts degree in Acting for Screen from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama of the University of London. [2]

Career

After graduating from university, Mallya spent a year working for drinks giant Diageo, as an assistant brand manager on Guinness. [14]

At the beginning of 2010, he became director of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL cricket team, which is owned by UB Group (his father's company). [15] [16] While he was at the RCB, he oversaw the team's "Green Initiatives", which led to RCB claiming to be the world's first carbon-neutral sports team through fan engagement. [17] [18] In 2012, he launched an online chat show called No Boundaries. [19] [20] The show was written and hosted by him, and its episodes were posted on the team's web site. [21] The website show primarily featured players from the RCB cricket team. [19]

Later that year, he appeared as the lead presenter and judge on "The Hunt for The Kingfisher Calendar Girl 2013" on the NDTV Good Times channel. [22] He made his ramp modeling debut during Lakme Fashion Week 2012 as the show stopper for designer Komal Sood. [23] He followed this up by walking for designers Shantanu and Nikhil during Indian Bridal Week. [24]

In the latter half of 2013, Mallya was selected as one of 20 to participate in the ABC Talent Showcase, a platform and training program for aspiring talents, out of more than 7000 applicants. [3] [25] [26] In 2014, he launched a YouTube show called Sid Sessions. [27]

Mallya made his feature film debut in the sex comedy film Brahman Naman directed by Q and produced by Steve Barron where he played Ronnie, a cricket-playing jock, who is rich, good-looking, and popular with girls. [28] [29]

As of 2012, Mallya was a running enthusiast, having taken part in two Mumbai Marathons, the London Marathon and the Delhi Half Marathon. [42]

Described by Rediff as "arguably the most prestigious [modelling assignment] in India", it was credited with advancing the careers of models and actresses like Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Yana Gupta, Sonali Raut, Ujjwala Raut, Nargis Fakhri, Bruna Abdullah, Deepti Gujral, Lisa Haydon, Aishwarya Sushmita and Angela Jonsson. Sheldon Philip Jackson is an Indian cricketer who plays for Saurashtra in domestic cricket and Kolkata Knight Riders in Indian Premier League (IPL).He is a right-handed wicket-keeper-batter. After a good domestic season in 2012–13, he was signed up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in February 2013. He finished the 2014–15 Ranji Trophy season as the fifth-highest run-getter. During the 2015–16 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Jackson hit two centuries on two consecutive days of the competition. Jackson made his debut for Saurashtra in 2011 and scored 5634 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 49.42, including 19 hundreds and 27 half-centuries. Kingfisher Airlines was established in 2003 and ceased operations when its license was cancelled on 20 October 2012. It is owned by the Bengaluru based United Breweries Group. The airline started commercial operations on 9 May 2005 with a fleet of four new Airbus A320-200s operating a flight from Mumbai to Delhi. It started its international operations on 3 September 2008 by connecting Bengaluru with London. Kingfisher's head office is located in Kingfisher House Western Express Highway Vile Parle (E) Mumbai – 400099 India and its registered office is located in UB City, Bangalore. Its head office was previously in the Kingfisher House in Vile Parle (East), Mumbai. In 2012 Vijay Mallya was trying to sell the Vile Parle Kingfisher House. The airline had shut down its operations when on 20 October 2012 the DGCA suspended its flying license. This suspension had been due to failure to give an effective response to the show-cause notice issued by DGCA. However, The airline had locked out its employees for several days before this suspension. On 25 October 2012, the employees agreed to return to work. On 7 June 2010 Kingfisher became a member elect of the Oneworld airline alliance when it signed a formal membership agreement. Kingfisher confirmed on 20 December 2011 that it will join the Oneworld airline alliance on 10 February 2012. Kingfisher would have been the first Indian carrier to join one of the big airline alliances. However, on 3 February 2012, owing to bad financial situation and two days after the International Air Transport Association (IATA) clearing house suspended Kingfisher Airlines; the airlines participation to Oneworld has been put on hold.
