Smoke House Pictures (stylized Smokehouse Pictures) is an American film and television production company. The company was founded in 2006 by George Clooney and Grant Heslov after the shutdown of Section Eight Productions. Its name is taken from the Smoke House restaurant, located across the street from Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. [1]

The company signed a long-term production and development agreement with Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Bros. Television in July 2006. [2] In June 2009, the company signed an exclusive two-year theatrical development and production deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment. [3] [4]

In January 2013, Priya Swaminathan joined the company as Senior Vice President of Development. [5]

Grant Heslov

Grant Heslov is an American actor, film producer, screenwriter and director, known for his producing and writing collaborations with George Clooney, which have earned him three Oscar nominations. As a co-producer of Argo (2012), he received the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2013. As an actor, he has appeared in films including True Lies (1994), Black Sheep (1996), Enemy of the State (1998) and The Scorpion King (2002), as well as performing supporting roles in several films made with Clooney.

Section Eight Productions, or just Section Eight, was a production company founded in 2000 by film director Steven Soderbergh and actor and director George Clooney. It produced the critical hits Far From Heaven, Insomnia, Syriana, A Scanner Darkly and Michael Clayton, as well as Clooney-directed films Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Good Night, and Good Luck. In 2005, Syriana and Good Night, and Good Luck picked up eight Oscars nominations between them. With Soderbergh citing a desire to focus on directing, and Clooney forming production company Smoke House Pictures with Grant Heslov, the two decided to shut down Section Eight at the end of 2006.
