South Chittoor is a riverine island in the city of Kochi in Kerala, India. It is lying adjacent to Vaduthala. Chittoor is connected with Vaduthala through the Vaduthala Bridge. The island is home to the Chittoorappan Temple. [1] Aster Medcity, which is one of the super speciality hospitals in Kerala is also located here. [2]

Overview

When compared to other areas in Kochi, South Chittoor is serene. The region is well connected with the mainland through road. There are two bus stations in Chittoor. The boat jetty located near to the main bus station. [3] There are plans to upgrade the South Chittor Water Metro station, which is under construction, as a hub for services to the northern regions of Kochi. [4] The CGH Chittoor Palace is a notable tourist place in Chittoor, located 1 km away from Sujitha foods, a renowned bakery of the region, managed by Nishanth Suneej. [5]

The Kochi Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Kochi and the wider Kochi Metropolitan Region in Kerala, India. It was opened to the public within four years of starting construction, making it one of the fastest completed metro projects in India. The Kochi metro project is the first metro system in the country which connects rail, road and water transport facilities. It is also the first metro rail system in India to be operated using the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system, which requires minimum human intervention. When fully operational, it will connect Kochi’s 10 island communities with the mainland through a fleet of 78 battery-operated electric hybrid boats operating along 38 terminals and 16 routes spanning 76 kilometres. He started his political career as a Panchayat Member in 1979, and continued to do so for 20 years. He was a member of Kollam District Panchayat from 2000 to 2005.

Vadakkekotta metro station is a metro station of Kochi Metro in India. It was opened on 1 September 2022 as a part of the extension of the metro system from Petta to SN Junction. Spread over an area of 4.3 lakh square feet, it is Kochi Metro’s biggest station. The station features Kerala's role in freedom struggle as its theme.

South Chittoor is a station of Kochi Water Metro. Located in South Chittoor, the station was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan on 14 March 2024 and opened for public on 17 April as a part of the first phase of the metro system.
