Ipoh is the capital city of the Malaysian state of Perak. Located by the Kinta River, it is nearly 200 km (120 mi) north of Kuala Lumpur and 150 km (93 mi) southeast of George Town in neighbouring Penang. As of the 2020 census Ipoh had a population of 759,952, making it the eighth-largest city in Malaysia by population.

Tun Dr. Lim Keng Yaik was a Malaysian politician and former Minister of Energy, Water and Communications in the Malaysian cabinet. He was the third president of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) from 1980 until stepping down on 8 April 2007 to pave the way for Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon. Just before his death, he was among the only four living Chinese with Tunship holders in Malaysia.

Kapitan China Chung Keng Quee was the founder and administrator of modern Taiping in Perak, Malaysia. Appointed "Capitan China" by the British in 1877, he was a millionaire philanthropist and known as an innovator in the mining of tin. He was involved in many other industries including farming, pawnbroking and logging. He was respected by both Chinese and European communities in the early colonial settlement. His survival in the chaotic era owes much to his standing as leader of the Hai San, a Chinese secret society in British Malaya during the time of the Larut Wars (1862–73), a position he is said to have held until early 1884, although in all probability he continued to remain a leading member. The old fort at Teluk Batu was built by him to safeguard the mine that he opened there.

Leong Sin Nam, alias Leong Sin, Leung Sin, Leong Sin Hee, was a Malaysian businessman. He migrated and settled in British Malaya in 1898. From humble beginnings, he worked hard to become a wealthy tin mine owner in Perak. He was a businessman, an active community leader and a philanthropist. He was a Chinese revolutionary with similar aspirations as Sun Yat-sen and a strong supporter of the Chinese war efforts during the Sino-Japanese war.
Dato' Lee Chee Leong is a Malaysian politician from the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA). He served as one-term Member of Parliament (MP) of Malaysia for Kampar constituency in Perak, Malaysia from March 2008 to May 2013. As MP, he was twice appointed a deputy minister, first at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from April 2008 to June 2010 and later at the Ministry of Home Affairs from June 2010 to May 2013.

Established as a Roman Catholic foundation in 1907, it is one of the oldest schools in Ipoh and is widely known as Main Convent Ipoh. Owned by the religious order the Sisters of the Holy Infant Jesus (IJS), SMK Main convent was formally a private missionary school and is one of around twenty convent secondary schools in Malaysia.
Saint Anthony's School is a school in Teluk Intan, Perak, Malaysia. Established in 1931 as a school belonging to the local Roman Catholic parish of the same name which is in turn under the ecclesiastical purview of the Diocese of Penang, the school was transferred to the De La Salle Brothers after the Second World War and has remained part of the Lasallian community since.
