Star Mega Mall is a shopping mall located in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia. The mall houses the first hypermarket in Sibu, Daesco Hypermarket and Departmental Store as well as the largest all-in-one shopping mall in Sarawak's Central Region. [2]

Overview

The plan to develop Star Mega Mall started in 1998. Construction works began only in August 2007 on a 4-hectare (9.9-acre) land in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, about 6 km (3.7 mi) from the Sibu town centre. [2] The mall was constructed at a total cost of over RM40 million. [1]

The mall was officially declared open by then Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh in late September 2011. [1]

Future expansion plan

In December 2021, Daesim Group of Companies chairman, Dato Lau Ngie Hua told journalists of early plan to build phase 2 of the mall which would accommodate more facilities such has a bigger food court, a cinema with seven halls and also more than 400 stalls. [17]

Masterpiece is an Iban rock band, which formed in 2003 as Masterjam in Sibu, Sarawak best known for its hit singles, "Sinu", "Kumang Seari" & "Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai". The band comprises vocalist Depha Masterpiece, lead guitarist Willy Edwin, bassist Watt Marcus, drummer Harold Vincent, keyboardist Valentine Jimmy and Roslee Qadir. The group was renamed Masterpiece in 2005 after Depha was hired as the band's new vocalist. Drummer Roni,guitarist Kennedy Edwin ,keyboardist Dellender Wilson and Timothy are former members of the band.

Alice Lau Kiong Yieng is a Malaysian politician and pharmacist who has served as the Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat II under Speaker Johari Abdul since December 2022 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Lanang since May 2013. She served as Chairperson of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) from October 2019 to March 2020. The 2024 Sukma Games, officially known as the 21st Sukma Games is a multi-sport event that will be held in Sarawak. Johor was supposed to host the 20th edition of the Games in July 2020, but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the 20th edition took over by the National Sports Council (NSC) in September 2022. This will be Sarawak's third time to host the Sukma Games since its first time in 1990, and second time in 2016.
