TVA (also known as Spider-Gwen: TVA, TVA: Time Variance Authority, and TVA: For All Time, Always) is a five-issue comic book series written by Katharyn Blair and drawn by Pere Perez, the fourth limited-run series following Spider-Gwen Stacy following Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse , Spider-Gwen: Shadow Clones , and Spider-Gwen: Smash , and a tie-in to the ongoing series Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider . Published by Marvel Comics, the story revolves around the public-identity superhero Spider-Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman as she is harbored by the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) incarnation of the Time Variance Authority, following the events of the feature film Deadpool & Wolverine (2023), as she meets Mobius, O.B., Casey, B-15, Sylvie, and Miss Minutes from Loki (2021–2023), as well as Jimmy Hudson, Captain Carter, and Gambit.
The series received a universally positive critical reception. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
During the events of Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider , Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman temporarily works as an agent of the Time Variance Authority (TVA). After the events of Loki and Deadpool & Wolverine , partnered with Channing Tatum's Gambit she begins to investigate a disturbance called "The Madness" causing people across various timelines of the multiverse to experience their worst fears. On returning to the TVA, tailed by Sylvie, Gwen, Gambit, and Sylvie find Mobius stabbed by an unknown culprit. As Sylvie reunites with Hunter B-15, meeting other variants including Captain Carter and Jimmy Hudson, to try and find out who stabbed Mobius, elsewhere, Gwen finds a secret department in the TVA and releases a variant of the Scarlet Witch in cryostasis. Ultimately, Nightmare is revealed to be the culprit and attempts to recruit the Scarlet Witch. [6] After Nightmare is defeated with the help of a Flerken and Dreamqueen, Sylvie releases the Scarlet Witch, despite Gwen's intention to make her stay. [7]
In July 2024, Marvel Comics announced the five-issue comic book series TVA, written by Loki season two writer Katharyn Blair with art by Pere Perez. The series sees the comics' version of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) blended with the one established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) television series Loki and the feature film Deadpool & Wolverine , and also introduces several MCU characters to the comics. [8] Blair said TVA was her "comics interpretation" of the organization following Loki's sacrifice at the end of Loki season two, calling it a "funny, in-between awesome space". [7] The series features Earth-65's Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman meeting Mobius, O.B., Casey, B-15, Sylvie, and Miss Minutes from Loki, along with other comics characters who have been displaced from their timelines such as Jimmy Hudson (from Earth-1610), Captain Carter (from What If? ), and Channing Tatum's Remy LeBeau / Gambit (from Deadpool & Wolverine). [8] [7] The series was published from December 2024 to April 2025, picking up from the events of Deadpool & Wolverine and continuing storylines from the ongoing comic book series Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider (2024–2025), serving as a tie-in to its events as well as those of the MCU.
TVA received good reviews. AIPT Comics praised the series as "charming" and as "feel[ing] like a [full-on] Spider-Gwen series", which "successfully captures the charm of the Loki TV series while carving out its own identity with a dynamic team and engaging premise[,] strong character moments and impressive visuals". [1] Nerd Initiative lauded Blair for doing "a phenomenal job at writing so many different personalities while giving them all a spotlight of their own", and calling the artwork " nothing short of exciting", praising the artists as "really [having] nailed the multiple tones while elevating the story itself by bringing the story to life.". [2] Comic Book Dispatch called the series "a well-crafted and suspenseful [series that is] a must-read for fans of time-travel stories, procedural dramas, and psychological thrillers", [3] Bleeding Cool noting it as keeping readers "thoroughly entertained". [4] Comic Watch meanwhile complimented the "stunning conclusion" with its "touch of cinematic flair". [5]
