Tachileik Township is a township of Tachileik District in the Shan State of Myanmar. The principal town is Tachileik.

The Shan language is the native language of the Shan people and is mostly spoken in Shan State, Myanmar. It is also spoken in pockets in other parts of Myanmar, in Northern Thailand, in Yunnan, in Laos, in Cambodia, in Vietnam and decreasingly in Assam and Meghalaya. Shan is a member of the Tai–Kadai language family and is related to Thai. It has five tones, which do not correspond exactly to Thai tones, plus a sixth tone used for emphasis. The term Shan is also used for related Northwestern Tai languages, and it is called Tai Yai or Tai Long in other Tai languages. Standard Shan, which is also known as Tachileik Shan, is based on the dialect of the city of Tachileik.

Myanma Airways Flight 635 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Yangon to Tachileik in eastern Myanmar that was operated by a Fokker F-27 Friendship owned by Myanmar's flag carrier Myanma Airways. On 24 August 1998, during its descent to Tachileik the flight went missing over a hill approximately two miles (3.2 km) from the airport. Search and rescue team later found the wreckage of the aircraft. The accident killed all 36 passengers and crew.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">National Highway 4 (Myanmar)</span> Road in Myanmar

National Highway 4 is an important west–east flowing highway of central Burma. It connects the town of Meiktila in the Mandalay Region to Tachileik in Shan State in the east on the border with Thailand. The highway begins near Meiktila at 20°52′22″N95°52′59″E where it is linked by the National Highway 1 coming from the south and at Hopong it meets the National Highway 5 which goes south at 20°48′2″N97°10′25″E.

The 2011 Tarlay earthquake occurred on 24 March in Shan State, Myanmar. The earthquake measured Mw 6.8 and had an epicenter northwest of the border between Myanmar, Thailand and Laos. It occurred in a region accommodating tectonic deformation brought by the collision between the Indo-Australian and Eurasian plates. Strike-slip faulting along the Nan Ma Fault was identified as the cause. There were between 75 and 151 fatalities; including one death in Thailand. An additional 212 people were injured. Hundreds of buildings and some transport infrastructure were damaged in Myanmar and Thailand. In the aftermath of the disaster, the Burmese government provided aid and relief supplies to the affected region. Neighbouring countries China, India and Thailand provided monetary assistance. Several international humanitarian organizations also supported in the relief and recovery.

Mae Sai, is the district town of Mae Sai District in the far north of Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. Mae Sai is a major border crossing between Thailand and Myanmar; the town of Tachileik, in Shan State is across the bridge. Asian Highway Network AH2 crosses the Mae Sai River to the town of Tachileik in Myanmar. The town of Mae Sai and Tachileik are the bi-national conurbation shared between Thailand and Myanmar.

Hnin Thway Yu Aung, Miss Universe Myanmar 2018 of Bago crowned Swe Zin Htet of Hpa-An her successor at the end of the event.The winner will represent Myanmar at Miss Universe 2019 in Tyler Perry Studios, Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
