The Lion's Roar is the second studio album by Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit. It was produced by Mike Mogis and features contributions from Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst, Nate Walcott, and The Felice Brothers. The album was released on 18 January 2012.

Critical

The Lion's Roar received general acclaim from music journalists. The album holds an aggregate score of 81 out of 100 on Metacritic, which indicates "universal acclaim". [2] Rebecca Nicholson of The Guardian commented that it was "a bigger, better record than their debut, rounded out with the confidence of maturity and a smooth, assured indie-country sound." [5] Helen Clarke of musicOMH was similarly positive, stating that "this follow-up could be the album that sees them nudge the likes of Laura Marling and Mumford and Sons out of the way in order to claim a place at the top table." [13] As with the band's previous work, critics praised Klara and Johanna Söderberg's singing, with The Independent highlighting the band's "clear, characterful voices, employed in beautifully modulated, bell-like harmonies." [14]

The album was reissued in the form of a special edition box set on 17 September 2012, featuring additional tracks and a music-video DVD amongst other items. [15]

Rolling Stone named the song "Emmylou" the 10th best song of 2012 [16] and 96th in their list of 100 best songs of the 2010s. [17] At the 2013 annual Grammis Awards, the album won three awards, including album of the year, pop of the year and best album composers of the year. [18]

Commercial

The album went straight to #1 in Sweden in its first week of release, topping the Swedish Albums Chart. [19] It also reached #35 in its first week on the UK Albums Chart, [20] and has sold 76,759 copies in the UK as of June 2014. [21]

Worldwide, the album has sold over 250,000 copies. [22]

First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo consisting of the sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, born in 1990 and 1993 respectively. When performing live, they are accompanied by a drummer, a guitarist and a keyboard player. First Aid Kit started to become internationally known in 2008 with their YouTube uploaded cover of the Fleet Foxes' song "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song". In 2012 Rolling Stone magazine had their song "Emmylou" as 10th on their "Single of the Year" list. First Aid Kit has released five albums, four EPs and several singles. In 2015, they were nominated for a Brit Award as one of the five best international groups. They were nominated again in 2019 and 2023.

Satan i gatan is the third studio album released by Swedish singer and songwriter Veronica Maggio. It was released in Sweden on 27 April 2011 through Universal Music AB and debuted at number one on the Swedish Albums Chart. The title is a Swedish expression which generally means "damn". The album follows on from her 2006 debut Vatten & bröd and her 2008 follow-up Och vinnaren är.... The album was recorded and produced by Maggio in the studio of Christian Walz in Östermalm, Stockholm. Maggio wrote all the lyrics, a process that took almost a year, whereas all music was written by Christian Walz, except for "Vi kommer alltid ha Paris" the music of which was composed by Markus Krunegård.

"The Lion's Roar" is the title track of the album The Lion's Roar by the Swedish folk band First Aid Kit. Written by Klara Söderberg and Johanna Söderberg, the song was released as the first single from the album and entered the Swedish Singles Chart at #38, and then rose to #34 the following week.

Searching for Sugar Man is the 2012 soundtrack album from the documentary, Searching for Sugar Man, containing a compilation of songs by Rodriguez from his two studio albums. As a result of the popularity of the documentary, the album climbed high for a soundtrack album in some national album charts. In Sweden, it reached #3 in early 2013 when the Academy Award nomination was announced, and had been in the charts for 26 weeks by the time it received the award in February 2013; in Denmark it reached #18; and in New Zealand it reached #9. The album was released by Light in the Attic / Legacy records and distributed by Sony Music Entertainment in a cooperative arrangement. All tracks were remastered by Dave Cooley of Elysian Masters.

The Last Stand is the eighth studio album by Swedish power metal band Sabaton. It was produced by Peter Tägtgren in the Abyss Studios in Sweden and released on 19 August 2016. The specific spelling of the EP is the name of a hell realm in both Hinduism and Buddhism (Avīci), but this may be a coincidence.

"Emmylou" is a single by the Swedish folk band First Aid Kit from their second studio album The Lion's Roar. Written by sisters Klara Söderberg and Johanna Söderberg, the song was released on 16 January 2012 as the second single from the album. "Emmylou" entered the Swedish Singles Chart at #33, and peaked at #24.
