Thomas Whitehead and Brothers was a textile business established in Rawtenstall, Lancashire in 1815. It was founded by Thomas with his two brothers, David and Peter. [1] The partnership was dissolved in 1855. [1]

The business had a significant influence on the development of Rawtenstall. They built Lower Mill. They also built a house for themselves, Holly Mount – which was divided into three sections, one for each brother. [2]

Ilex Mill

Ilex Mill is a cotton mill built in 1856 by Peter Whitehead in Rawtenstall, Lancashire. It reached its peak of production in 1895 when it had 50,000 spindles and 748 looms. However, by 1899 the building had been sold to Messrs Hoyle, Parker and Company who turned the premises into a shoe factory.
