Tiruchirappalli Bicycle Share is a new proposed bicycle sharing system for the city of Tiruchirappalli.
In November 2013, the two-day conference on "Sustainable Cities Through Transport" at Coimbatore, with respective city engineers from Madurai, Tiruchi, Tirupur, Salem and Coimbatore, stressed for improving non–motorised transport in city corporations and town municipalities [1] [2] and also chalked out plans for creation of transit systems, pedestrian pathways, cycling tracks, parks, pedestrian zones, etc. [3] While presenting the same at a workshop in Chennai by concerned Corporation officials, chaired by K. P. Munusamy, State Minister of Municipal Administration and Rural Development, Law, Courts and Prisons and officials of the ministry, [4] [5] the Corporation Commissioner of Tiruchi City, V. P. Thandapani declared that about 2000 bicycles will be put to use for public use and on the infrastructure front, he stated that at an outlay of ₹150 crore (US$21 million), 28 kilometres (17 mi) of cycling tracks, 52 kilometres (32 mi) of pedestrian pathways and 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) of green lines will be constructed, of which, 10.7 kilometres (6.6 mi) of cycle tracks will be completed by next year. The plan was developed in association with Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) and International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) is being funded by Ministry of Urban Development would create exclusive bicycle lanes with 66 "cycle sharing stations", besides improving the city's road infrastructure and future transport modes, which presently has narrow roads and indiscriminate encroachments coupled with booming vehicle population. As of December 2019, the Trichy City Corporation has dropped its bicycle sharing project. [8]

Tiruchirappalli, also called Tiruchi or Trichy, is a major tier II city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and the administrative headquarters of Tiruchirappalli district. The city is credited with being the best livable city and the cleanest city of Tamil Nadu, also fifth most safest city for women in India. It is the fourth largest city as well as the fourth largest urban agglomeration in the state. Located 322 kilometres (200 mi) south of Chennai and 374 kilometres (232 mi) north of Kanyakumari, Tiruchirappalli sits almost at the geographic centre of the state. The Cauvery Delta begins 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) west of the city where the Kaveri river splits into two, forming the island of Srirangam, which is now incorporated into the Tiruchirappalli City Municipal Corporation. The city occupies an area of 167.23 square kilometres (64.57 sq mi) and had a population of 916,857 in 2011.
The Southern Railway, headquartered at Chennai, is one of the 18 zones of Indian Railways. It is the earliest of the 18 zones of the Indian Railways created in independent India. It was created on 14 April 1951 by merging three state railways, namely, the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, the South Indian Railway Company, and the Mysore State Railway. The South Indian Railway was originally created in the British colonial times as Great Southern India Railway Co founded in Britain in 1853 and registered in 1859. Its original headquarters was in Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) and was registered as a company in London only in 1890. At present, after re-organization of existing railway zones and creation of new zones undertaken by the Indian Railways between 2002–03, Southern Railway has emerged as the 4th largest zone after undertaking some gauge conversion projects and creation of new lines.
Chennai BRTS was a bus rapid transit system taken up as an integrated part of Circular Corridor Project in India. Beginning at Adyar, the route will cover Saidapet, Jafferkanpet, Ramavaram, Puzhal, Manali, Chennai Central Railway Station, Lighthouse and will return to Adyar. The corridor will cover a distance of 70.3 kilometres (43.7 mi). The route of the elevated BRTS corridor was planned to run along the banks of Adyar river and Buckingham canal. The project was expected to be completed by 2013.
Tiruchirappalli Junction railway station (TPJ) is a junction station in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. It serves as the headquarters for Tiruchirappalli railway division of the Southern Railway zone. The station code is TPJ, used for official purposes. Daily approximately 1,50,000 passengers are using this Tiruchirappalli Junction. TPJ is the only railway station in southern railway to host diesel–electric multiple unit (DEMU) shed. Tiruchirappalli Junction is the second largest railway station in Tamil Nadu and one of the busiest railway station in India. The Station was awarded with ‘GOLD’ rating in March 2020 by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) for implementing various environment friendly measures. It is the first and only station in Southern Railway to get "GOLD" certification and 5th across Indian Railways.

The economy of Tiruchirappalli is mainly industrial. The factories of Ordnance Factories Board such as Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli and Heavy Alloy Penetrator Project. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), and Golden Rock Railway Workshop are located in Tiruchirappalli. Due to the presence of boiler manufacturing units BHEL and Cethar Vessels, Tiruchirappalli is also known as the "Boiler capital of India".
Coimbatore has a well-developed transport infrastructure. The city and its suburbs is traversed using its road networks. Coimbatore is well connected by Road, Rail and Air with most cities and towns in India except through waterways. The city has fairly better transport infrastructure, though road infrastructures are not well maintained and developed according to the growing needs of transport, making traffic congestion a major problem in the city. A comprehensive transport development plan is made part of Coimbatore Masterplan as part to ease many of traffic problems.

The Anna Stadium is a stadium at the Anna Sports Complex located in the Indian city of Tiruchirappalli. The main football and athletics stadium, Anna Stadium, has a capacity of 10,000. Constructed in 1970, it is spread over an area of 31.25 acres (12.65 ha).
