Treasure Chest is a 3-disc box set by Australian band The Seekers. Disc one contains two new tracks and an interview. Disc two is their 1967 album, Seekers Seen in Green and disc three is their 1968 album, Live at the Talk of the Town . The album peaked at number 7 in Australia and was certified gold. [1]
Bruce Eder of AllMusic stated, "This triple-CD set is uneven, soaring (and scoring) high with new 1997 material and covering some important historical bases as well. [The disc] opens with one of the finest recordings the group has ever made, 1997's "Far Shore," written by ex-Easybeats' Harry Vanda and George Young. The group also does a good ecological anthem, "Hey Hey Hey," co-written by Durham, which gets into world music territory—her voice still has the same power it displayed 30 years ago, and the group still plays and sings well. The Seekers were an Australian folk-influenced pop group originally formed in Melbourne in 1962. They were the first Australian pop music group to achieve major chart and sales success in the United Kingdom and the United States. They were especially popular during the 1960s, with their best-known configuration of Judith Durham on vocals, piano and tambourine; Athol Guy on double bass and vocals; Keith Potger on twelve-string guitar, banjo and vocals; and Bruce Woodley on guitar, mandolin, banjo and vocals.
Judith Durham was an Australian singer, songwriter and musician who became the lead singer of the Australian folk music group The Seekers in 1963.
"I Am Australian" is a popular Australian song written in 1987 by Bruce Woodley of the Seekers and Dobe Newton of the Bushwackers. Its lyrics are filled with many historic and cultural references, such as to the "digger", Albert Namatjira and Ned Kelly, among others. Its popularity has made it one of a number of Australian patriotic songs considered as alternatives to the current national anthem, "Advance Australia Fair". It is commonly taught in primary schools. Keith Leon Potger is an Australian musician. He is a founding members of the Australian folk-pop group the Seekers. He was born in Ceylon and is of Burgher descent. In 1969, Potger and his business partner David Joseph co-founded the contemporary English pop group the New Seekers. Potger also records and performs as a solo artist.
