Tyrannodoris luteolineata is a species of sea slug, a polycerid nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Polyceridae. [2]
This species was described from the Ryukyu Islands, Japan. It has been reported widely in the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean. It has been observed as far south as the Poor Knights Islands in New Zealand in the Southern Hemisphere. This species is sometimes confused with the nudibranch Tambja affinis due to its outwardly similar appearance. [3]
Tyrannodoris luteolineata is quite large in comparison to most other sea-slugs. It is black, with yellow lines running lengthwise down the body. It can be distinguished from other similar-looking nudibranchs by the light green patches on the top of the head between its rhinophores. It is a fast-moving species.
Tyrannodoris luteolineata, like other species in the genus Tyrannodoris , feeds on other nudibranchs, actively hunting them out. The species seems to generally feed only on nudibranchs from the family Polyceridae and has been observed eating Tambja morosa , Tambja verconis and Nembrotha kubaryana . It is also cannibalistic and will eat smaller individuals of its own species. [4]
Nembrotha is a genus of sea slugs, nudibranchs, marine gastropod molluscs in the family Polyceridae.
Nembrotha cristata is a species of colourful sea slug, a polycerid nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Polyceridae. This species of sea slug is black with green markings; adults are around 50 mm long, and they live on rock or coral reefs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific Ocean.
Tambja morosa, also known as Tambja kushimotoensis or gloomy nudibranch, is a species of sea slug, a dorid nudibranch, a shell-less marine gastropod mollusk in the subfamily Nembrothinae within the family Polyceridae.
Tyrannodoris europaea, is a species of sea slug, a polycerid nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Polyceridae.
Nembrotha milleri is a species of sea slug, a dorid nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Polyceridae. This species was named after the nudibranch enthusiast Michael D. Miller.
Roboastra is a genus of sea slugs, polycerid nudibranchs, marine gastropod molluscs in the family Polyceridae. They are carnivorous, feeding on other species of nudibranch.
Tambja is a genus of colorful sea slugs, dorid nudibranchs, shell-less marine gastropod mollusks in the family Polyceridae.
Tyrannodoris leonis is a species of sea slug, a polycerid nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Polyceridae.
Tyrannodoris tigris is a species of sea slug, a polycerid nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Polyceridae. It is a known predator of Tambje eliora and Tambje abdere, two species of smaller nudibranchs. The chemical extracts of all three species contain tambjamines, which were traced to Sessibugula translucens, a food source of these species. It is hypothesized that tambjamines are a chemical defence mechanism against feeding by the spotted kelpfish Gibbonsia elegans.
Tambja affinis is a species of sea slug, a dorid nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Polyceridae.
Limacia ornata, is a sea slug, a species of dorid nudibranch. It is a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Polyceridae.
Tyrannodoris is a genus of sea slugs, polycerid nudibranchs, marine gastropod molluscs in the family Polyceridae. Most of these species were formerly considered to belong to the genus Roboastra. They are carnivorous, feeding on other species of nudibranch, especially similar looking species of Tambja.
