UnitedMasters is an American music distributor based in the United States founded by Steve Stoute in November 2017. [1] UnitedMasters gives artists the ability to distribute music to all major streaming services. Distributed artists are eligible to participate in advertisements, brand partnerships and other promotions that can earn them money and new fans. UnitedMasters gives artists access to their streaming and social data, this gives them information on how to maximize their fan engagement. [2] The company claims to represent 1 million artists, one of the more notable being rapper NLE Choppa. [3] [4]




UnitedMasters was launched in November 2017 by Steve Stoute with a $70 million Series A led by Google’s corporate umbrella Alphabet alongside venture firm Andreessen Horowitz and 21st Century Fox. [5]

Music Distribution

In 2018, UnitedMasters rolled out the distribution feature on its platform titled Releases. The Releases feature allows artists to upload their music and album artwork and distribute their music to all major streaming services through the UnitedMasters platform. [6]

In 2019, UnitedMasters announced the appointment of its first President, Lauren Wirtzer-Seawood. Wirtzer-Seawood formerly served as Head of Music Partnerships at Instagram. [7] Prior to that, Wirtzer-Seawood spent two years as the Head of Digital at Beyonce’s entertainment and management company, Parkwood Entertainment. [8]


In 2018, UnitedMasters announced a global partnership with the NBA. [9]

In early 2019, UnitedMasters artists helped launch the Bose Frames products by featuring the product in their music videos. UnitedMasters helped identify ambassadors for the campaign and Bose assisted in the development and promotion of each artist’s music videos. [10]

In a 2019 partnership with iHeartRadio and AT&T, UnitedMasters helped major radio stations including Power 105.1 in New York City and Real 92.3 in Los Angeles celebrate emerging artists in their cities. Through ‘The Come Up Show’ series, independent artists got the opportunity to submit music for the chance to receive major radio play, $25,000, and a distribution deal through UnitedMasters. [11]

Also in 2019, UnitedMasters announced a partnership with NBA 2K20. [12] [13] [14] [15]

In June 2020, UnitedMasters has partnered up with Cash App to launch a new grant program called “Cash for Change”, to highlight songs by artists that address social and political climate. [16]

In August 2020, UnitedMasters and TikTok announced a partnership to allow TikTok artists to distribute their original songs through all streaming platforms, Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube among others. It will also allow artists to sign deals with brands like NBA. [17]

In September 2020, UnitedMasters has partnered up with Twitch to feature licensed music for creators. That also includes with CDBaby, Distrokid, and other music distributors. [18]

In March 2021, UnitedMasters raised $50m in a Series B venture round. Funding was led by Apple Inc, with follow-on funding by Google's corporate umbrella Alphabet and Andreessen Horowitz. [19]

In August 2021, UnitedMasters, Symphonic Distribution, and Horus Music partnered with music funding company, beatBread, to offer clients more access to capital. [20] beatBread's chordCashAI technology provides an automated advance experience for independent musicians while enable clients to choose their own terms and retain ownership of their music.


In July 2019, UnitedMasters unveiled its new iOS app which makes the features of the UnitedMasters platform available on mobile devices. [21] The iOS app allows artists to easily distribute music directly from their text messages, Dropbox, or iCloud to major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple, Tidal, and YouTube. [22] Similar to the desktop platform, artists can view streaming stats, playlisting details, financial earnings, and social stats as well as access opportunities for brand partnerships. [23]

SoundCloud German audio distribution platform

SoundCloud is an online audio distribution platform and music sharing website that enables its users to upload, promote, and share audio, as well as a digital signal processor enabling listeners to stream audio. Founded in 2007 by Alexander Ljung and Eric Wahlforss, SoundCloud has grown to be one of the largest music streaming services in the world and is available in 190 countries and territories. Audience-wise, there are over 76 million active monthly users, with over 175 million global users that SoundCloud reaches, as of November 2021. While its competitors report having roughly 70 million tracks in their systems, SoundCloud has over 300 million. SoundCloud offers both free and paid memberships on the platform, available for mobile, desktop and Xbox devices.

Musixmatch is an Italian music data company and platform for users to search and share song lyrics with translations. It is the largest platform of this kind in the world having 80 million users, 8 million lyrics and 100+ employees.

Gaana (music streaming service) Indian commercial music streaming service

Gaana is India's largest commercial music streaming service with over 200 million monthly users. It was launched in April 2010 by Times Internet and provides both Indian and international music content. The entire Indian music catalog is available to users worldwide. Gaana features music from 21 Indian languages including the major languages such as Assamese, Bengali, Bhojpuri, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Urdu, Odia, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Maithili, Malayalam and other Indian regional languages.

K Camp American rapper from Wisconsin

Kristopher Thomas Campbell, better known by his stage name K Camp, is an American rapper from Atlanta, Georgia. He is signed with Interscope Records and released his debut EP In Due Time in 2014. He is best known for the singles "Money Baby", "Comfortable" and "Cut Her Off", the last one receiving a nomination at the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards. His debut album Only Way Is Up was released in September 2015 and peaked at number 20 on the Billboard 200 chart. Since launching with its flagship automated mastering service in 2014, LANDR has expanded its offerings to include distribution services, a music samples library, virtual studio technology (VSTs) and plug-ins, a service marketplace for musicians, and online video conferencing.

Dash Radio is a digital radio broadcasting platform with over 80 radio stations. These stations are curated by DJs, radio personalities, musicians, etc. The platform includes partner stations curated by Snoop Dogg, Kylie Jenner, Lil Wayne, Tech N9ne, Borgore, B-Real of Cypress Hill, and others. Dash Radio has no subscription fees and is commercial-free.

Musical.ly was a Chinese social media service headquartered in Shanghai with an American office in Santa Monica, California, on which platform users created and shared short lip-sync videos. The first prototype was released in April 2014, and the official version was launched in August of that year. Through the app, users could create 15-second to 1-minute lip-syncing music videos and choose sound tracks to accompany them, use different speed options and add pre-set filters and effects. Boomplay or Boomplay Music is a media streaming and download service developed by Transsnet Music Limited. The service was first launched in Nigeria in 2015 by TECNO Mobile, Transsion Holdings. Boomplay has a freemium and subscription based service; basic features are free with advertisements or limitations, while additional features, such as download for offline play and ad-free listening are offered via paid subscriptions. The service is currently available for Web, Android and iOS use. As of August 3, 2018, Boomplay Music recorded 10 million installations off the Google Play App store. It currently has 75 million users.

Lottery (K Camp song) 2019 single by K Camp

"Lottery", later re-titled as "Lottery (Renegade)" is a song by American rapper K Camp from his third studio album Wayy 2 Kritical (2019). It was released as the album's third single on April 1, 2019, by Rare Sound and Interscope Records. The song was written by K Camp himself and produced by Reazy Renegade. In late 2019, the song went viral online, due to a dance challenge on TikTok, becoming the first sound on the platform to reach 20 million videos. K Camp credited choreographer Jalaiah Harmon for creating the dance challenge, after controversy arose due to Harmon not initially getting credit for it. DripReport is an American music producer and singer. He is known as "CEO of Remixes", primarily Indian remixes of popular rap songs on YouTube. He rose to fame after his debut single Skechers went viral on TikTok and YouTube.

Zynn was a Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by Kuaishou, a Beijing-based internet technology company established in 2011 by Su Hua and Cheng Yixiao. It was used to create and share short videos, and it pays its users for using the app and referring others. Zynn was launched on May 7, 2020. It became the most-downloaded app in the App Store in the same month. It has also been criticized for being a "pyramid scheme", and it has faced accusations of plagiarism and stealing content. Aside from Zynn in North America, Kuaishou is available under the name Kwai in Russia, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil, America, India, and the Middle East. Kwai used to be available in Australia and the United States on the App Store, but was removed at an unknown date. Zynn was permanently shut down on 20 August 2021.

The service allows users to create and share short-form videos, including videos set to, or automatically synchronized to music using artificial intelligence technology. Triller was released for iOS and Android in 2015, and initially operated as a video editing app before adding social networking features.

I Hate U (SZA song) 2021 single by SZA

"I Hate U" is a song by the American singer SZA. It was originally released along with two other songs on SZA's SoundCloud account in August 2021, before receiving a release on major platforms on December 3, 2021, after garnering popularity on the video-sharing app, TikTok. A break-up song, it finds SZA detailing what went wrong in a past relationship, expressing resentment towards her ex, but acknowledging that she still misses them. "I Hate U" is an electronic R&B song with a "crunching", dark instrumental, containing a relaxed, "ethereal" chorus, and hip hop-influenced verses.

Cash in Cash Out 2022 single by Pharrell Williams featuring 21 Savage and Tyler, the Creator

"Cash in Cash Out" is a song by American musician Pharrell Williams, featuring vocals from rappers 21 Savage and Tyler, the Creator. It was released as a single through Columbia Records on June 10, 2022. Williams produced the song, while 21 Savage and Tyler both handled the vocals. All three artists wrote the song together. Williams first teased the song on his TikTok account June 6, 2022. An accompanying music video was released on the same day the single was released, featuring a zeotrope-inspired CG animation style.
