University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) [2] is the department of engineering and technology of Panjab University, [3] Chandigarh which is recognized as Tier-1 institute by NIRF. It receive funds from central government of India offering undergraduate (BE), postgraduate (MTech degree) as well as doctoral courses. [4]
UIET is in the southern campus of Panjab University, Sector 25, Chandigarh. [5] It has two academic blocks which include labs, offices, library, and lecture halls. There are blocks for mechanical labs and workshops. There is an ATM. Wi-Fi and Internet access is provided in some parts of the campus. Students are from all over the nation: few are day scholars and many live in hostels which provide accommodation, food, washrooms, and sporting facilities.
UIET offers four-year Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Master of Engineering (ME) courses are offered in various engineering fields, as well as full-time PhD courses. [6]

Admissions to undergraduate courses are made through the JEE (Main) rank. [7] Admissions to Master of Engineering courses are made through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examinations. Admissions to PhD courses are made through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examinations and University PhD Entrance Test.
The official student committees of the institute are known as the 'UTECHNOS' Committees. [8] At present there are 10 such committees. [9]
UIET has an Entrepreneurship Development Cell [10] formed in 2011 to foster the growth of entrepreneurship and start-up environment in Panjab University's campus. UDYAMI [11] is an annual national entrepreneurship summit organised by EDC, in which they host renowned CEOs, Investors and speakers. [12]
'Goonj' is the annual cultural festival, organised by the students of UIET. Events include quizzes, workshops, game shows, informal events, fashion show (Glitterati), dance show (Groovz), rock night, Pronite, and a city-level beauty pageant. [13] [14] [15]
Conferences, events, competitions with workshops and lectures by eminent guests across the world are organised every year. [16] [17] [18] [19] Some of the conferences include National Conference on Computing, Communication and Control (3C-2009), [20] National Conference on Advances in Mechanical Engineering (NCAME-2011), [21] etc.
UIET has been hosting SAE EFFI-CYCLE, [22] from the first season; it is now in its third season, with more than 120 teams competing including four IITs.
The Alumni Affairs Office at UIET was set up in March 2013 and is maintained by the Student Team for Alumni Relations (STAR) and a 10-member faculty team who supervise alumni events and activities. [27] The office has played a substantial role in building relations with alumni and getting them back to the campus for growth and development of the college.
UIET has interactions and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with industry and academia like Infosys (Campus Connect Program), IBM, IMTECH, and Bharti Group (Bharti Chair for research). The institute has a memorandum signed with the University of Western Australia. [28]
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is a public institute of technology research university established by the Government of India in Kharagpur, West Bengal, India. Established in 1951, the institute is the first of the IITs to be established and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance. In 2019 it was awarded the status of Institute of Eminence by the Government of India. IIT Kharagpur is ranked among the most prestigious academic institutions in India.
The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) is a public technical university established by the Government of India, located in Amingaon area, North Guwahati Village area, in the state of Assam in India. It is the sixth Indian Institute of Technology established in India. IIT Guwahati is officially recognised as an Institute of National Importance by the government of India. Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) is a state funded college located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Founded in 1887 and formerly known as the Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute, it adopted its present name on 26 January 1997. VJTI is an academically and administratively autonomous institute, but it is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The institute is financially supported by the Government of Maharashtra.
Panjab University (PU) is an Indian collegiate public state university located in Chandigarh. Funded through both State and Union governments, it is considered a state university. After the partition of India, the university was established on 1 October 1947, and called East Punjab University. Society for Biological Engineering Students Chapter at UIET, Panjab University is professional organisation for Biotechnology students of engineering and sciences running under the department of Biotechnology, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, located in Chandigarh, India. It is the first student chapter in India and was established in September 2009.
